sweetham
I was digging through some old threads and found this one. I found it to be interesting and figured I would bring it up again for discussion sake and see if anyone else had any more input on theories regarding Halo 3. I don't think letting the rings activate will completely stop the flood now, the Forerunners needed 7 installations to "cleanse" the galaxy the first time, now 1 is destroyed and another comprimised, meaning even if they do activate them only 5 will fire..sure you can argue that maybe the Forerunners overkilled the amount of installations needed and 5 is enough, but no one knows for sure. I would agree with everything except Delta Halo. Its not necessarily comprimised, its still able to be activated remotely at the Ark. There is no idication of flood compromising its firing capabilities or of gravemind actually disabling it. Going from the E3 trailer and tieing in the obivous Cortana letters reference we come to T.S eliots poem "The Hollow Men". In this he repeatedly uses the phrase "This is the way the World ends", and follows up with "Not with a bang, but a whimper. From the Cortana letters she discusses the fact that Eliot "had it all wrong". This seems to indicate that the story of the Ark will conclude with some sort of final bang. Whether it be the activation of the ark and the remaining Halos, or something else on a equal or grander scale, I leave that up in the air. We also see that gravemind has traversed himself into High Charity from Delta Halo. With that I would expect him to be able to commandeer a ship. I expect he will make an appearance on earthalong with Cortana who but know I would guess is a corrupt AI and has a truce with Gravemind for certain personal gains. She is after all Smart AI and here one weekness is knowledge and the need to find a suitable location that will sustain that knowledge and stay "alive" perse as all AIs have a lifespan. Whats to keep her from dieing (information overload) if she has a place big enough to store all her data and the power that is needed for it. Perhaps certain forerunner technologies would allow for such infinite storage and power requirements(certain forerunner ship that Prophet on Truth currently is on and once powered High Charity?). Just a little of my thoughts.
goji
Though interesting, Bungie has decided to not include the Cortana Letters as part of the Halo Cannon, though they can change their mind on anything and everything at will. For all we know, the MC is Patrick Swayze who was looking to roundhouse kick someone and accidentally got involved in a war.
