Using Access Points

Question

theantidote    0

I'm wondering how does one use multiple access points to create one large and seamless wireless network. I'm doing a wireless network for a 10 floor apartment building and at first I was thinking of just going with WDS...but with 10 floors and a router on each floor it would be too many hops. So now I'm going with an ethernet backbone and access points on each floor, with maybe a repeater to fill in trouble spots. I have yet to test this but would putting them all on the same SSID and channel work? I've honestly never really worked with APs except back in the day when router/AP combos were rare and expensive.

I think you can set something similar to this up but your looking at purchasing the higher end AP like from Cisco. I don't think this type of scenario will work with a bunch of cheap AP's that you would pick up from the store.
