Serie A sides Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have been demoted to the second division for their involvement in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

AC Milan will stay in Serie A but will lose 15 points and will be kicked out of the Champions League.

Juventus have been stripped of their last two league titles and were deducted 30 points from their total for next season.

Lazio were penalised seven points while Fiorentina suffered a 12 point penalty.

Man, I would be so ****ed if I was a Juve fan but I'm glad they've come down fairly hard on them, there is no place for match fixing in football.

IMHO no one will accept this verdicts without fighting... it will be a long summer ;)

I have to say the these judges have been very strict, though

It can't go on too long, UEFA need to know everyones positions before any Italian team is allowed to compete in Europe, the deadline for that is July 27th I think. But yea, I don't think they will go without a fight.

I dont think this is good for football. There are a lot of quality players in the Italian league's, and a lot of them will probably be leaving Italy because of this. It is also sad to see such quality team's kicked out of the Champions League. I am dissapointed that such high profile team's would seek to fix matches :/.

Oh well, Inter to win Serie A this season then.

I think Italian football will be waving bye bye to Buffon, Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Frey, Pazzini, Thuram, Vieira, Cameronasi, Mutu, Emerson, Trezeguet, Ibrahimovic, Toni, Oddo, Gattuso, Pirlo, Bojinov, Nedved, Nesta and Kaka!

I've heard a lot of Italian players want to stay in Italy, I think Real Madrid will probably pick up a few though. It could actually be good in the long run if Serie B gets a lot more attention this season then maybe it will continue in the next seasons and bring more money to the lower leagues and be good for Italian football... lol, that's just a stab in the dark though.

Some of the players will want to stay, but their club's cant afford to keep them. Lack of Champions League money, league money and other money generated from Italy's more prestige league will mean the big club's cant afford to pay sky high wages.

Especially as the clubs have point reductions so they may not be guaranteed to bounce back up to Serie A.

No, you have a point, the smaller serie B clubs will benefit from having teams like Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina .

I think with the current situation AC Milan still have a very good chance to win the serie A championship

and I don't think we'll see many players living, even Kaka already signed for 3 more years

I have to say the these judges have been very strict, though

You call that strict? Match fixing in football is absolutely despicable and has no place in this sport. The judges need to be harsh on this so no future incidents will occur, whether it be in Italy or outside of Italy.

They should consider themselves lucky for not being either relegated to Serie C, or banned from playing next season.

Well this tarnishes their World Cup victory... it's pathetic that this sort of thing still goes on. NEway, I suppose it would be hard to verify match fixing on the pitch because the Italians dive all over the place without bribes.

This is lenient, considering that the old Fiorentina got relegated to Serie C2 and forced to CHANGE THEIR NAME! (Florenta Viola) just for going bankrupt...

Then 3 teams in the top league including the Champions get relegated 1 division, and people say its harsh? I feel sorry for the old Fiorentina, and Angelo Di Livio who stucked by them for the rest of his career, and the players that made them big again!

As for the players... The one thing about Italian football is they are never scared of moving to their arch rivals! You'll probably never see Rooney go to Arsenal or Chelsea, but you will see Buffon cross to AC, and we've already seen Nesta go from Lazio to Spain, and then there's the managers! Just imagine Alex Ferguson in charge of Arsenal and Wenger at Man Utd or Chelsea? Not a chance in English football, but I think the majority of Italians will stay in Italy and the foreigners will leave for England or Spain.

VIVE LA FRANCE !!

Italy = Mafia :whistle:

I am sure , the explusion of Zidane was perfectly wanted, Italy perfectly intended to provoke him before the end of the match, to destabilize France. For France without Vieira & Zidane it's very difficult to shoot penalties at 100%.

Italy don't have the Maestro.

So the exodus begins...

(Of quality players that is :D) WOOOO!

sweet players galore...hope they all get bought up...it'd b mad if viera went back to arsenal :D

As Juventus had there two Serie A titles striped from them; who are the new winners of Serie A for the last two years?

hmmm......????

from what it sounds like its 99% that the scudetti will both be nullified. if they do go to anyone, it would be Inter for 05-06, and Milan for 04-05.

of all the teams i feel for fiorentina.. those players worked hard all year to reach a champions league spot.

can you even keep your post on topic? its not ok to insult someones mother, but you feel its ok to brand italy as mafia?

did you see italy perfectly intending to provoke zidane? it was materazzi who was bothering him, the guy is retarded. zidane being the "legend" that you all say, should have kept his cool, period. but you can see from his history that he rarely does

I couldn't agree more. I think they should have been relegated to Group C.

well juventus got relegated to serie B and has 30 points of penalty: this means that the won't return to Serie A in one year, and they risk to go down to serie C if they won't have a really good season. Also, there is few differences between Fiorentina and Juve, even if Juve had a bigger part in this fact.

For those who said about relegation of Fiorentina for bankrupcy, they had the same treatment of every other team in the same situation. And after thew won Serie C2, they skipped Serie C1 and went directly to Serie B.

Most important players will go away for sure.
