dARKSTAr
Jimmy Carter has won the Nobel Peace Prize. A quote from CNN says "In announcing the winner on Friday, the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Carter's decades of "untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." I happened to meet President Carter a few years ago and it was a great moment. I think that his work after leaving the White House has shown what a great man he is, especially his Habitats for Humanity project. Congratulations to him, he's worth the honor of the Nobel. Budious
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/sit...or_2.guest.html "... I'm telling you, this is the biggest joke of a prize every year, and it's now been sanctified as a pure 100% joke by virtue of the fact that it has gone to Jimmy Carter, who has insulted the American people and the current president by accepting it. Just how is the world peaceful because of Jimmy Carter? He only engineered all the mullahs that are in Iran today. Jimmy Carter overthrew the Shah, so we can thank Jimmy Carter for the Ayatollah Khomeini, and all the mullahs that have followed him. Jimmy Carter gave us the modern era of Iran, which is the local focus of most Middle East terrorism. And for this he wins a prize."

dARKSTAr
President Carter doesn't need to be defended, certainly not by me, but i feel obligated to do so. These are just a few of the reasons he deserved the Peace Prize. President Carter brokered the Camp David peace accords between Israel and Egypt during his presidency. After he left the presidency, he started the Carter Center which among other things combats disease and promotes progress throughout the third world. He has advocated for finding peaceful solutions to war torn areas and conflicts, from Sudan to Bosnia-Herzogovina. His private efforts at crisis resolution have produced a peaceful transition to civilian rule in Haiti and defused nuclear tensions between North Korea and the United States. He is a champion of peace, democracy and human rights worldwide. Next week he travels to Jamaica to observe presidential elections in Jamaica Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch said, "Jimmy Carter has done more to integrate human rights into U.S. foreign policy than anybody else. Before Jimmy Carter, human rights and U.S. foreign policy were like oil and water. I have had the opportunity to meet with former Presidents Nixon, Reagan, Bush (Sr.) and Jimmy Carter. Carter was by far the kindest, most human and genuine of those men. I spoke with Carter for several minutes and Carter actually listened and honestly seemed to care. The others seemed more interested in pressing the flesh and improving their own image. He made a powerful impression on me. The last word i'll give you came from Carter himself today when he was asked about the prize. This sums him up perfectly for me and shows what kind of man he is. "People everywhere share the same dream of a caring international community that prevents war and oppression. During the past two decades, as Rosalynn and I traveled around the world for the work of our Center, my concept of human rights has grown to include not only the rights to live in peace, but also to adequate health care, food and to economic opportunity." He may have made some mistakes when he was president, all men who have held the office have. It certainly is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, but it is my opinion that Jimmy Carter has been the finest ex-president this country has ever produced and certainly the most decent, humble and caring man who ever was president. dARKSTAr
I said finest "EX-President" most ex-presidents spend the rest of their life after leaving office building their presidential libraries, writing their memoirs and working for their party. Name a president who has done more than Carter has since leaving office?
intensityx
This humble, selfless man who HAS done so much for so many in this world is most definitely worthy of this HONOR. Yes, I say HONOR because that is exactly what it is and I'm sure most of the world agrees. Only those on the fringe, who align themselves with causes that care little about world peace, would think otherwise.

WebOrbiter
The peace prize is worthless if it is whimsically given to terrorists like Yassar Arafat (Peace Prize winner of 1994). Giving it to a useless fart like Carter just reiterates that fact. :right:

You did not react to their arguments and instead reacted to their political position. As if someone with a capitalist persuasion can not make a valid argument. And that is poisoning the well. If you think they have no credibility give us some *arguments* why you think their line of reasoning is mistaken.
