Fred Derf Veteran Posted July 26, 2006 Veteran Share Posted July 26, 2006 It works. I fail to see the need for an external download manager. I personally hate it when Adobe wants to install their own download managers and such.

olavinto
It works. I fail to see the need for an external download manager. I personally hate it when Adobe wants to install their own download managers and such. It works, yes but some files that are hundreds of megabytes are better and also usually faster to download using a separate download manager. Some useful features in them are multi-source downloading, timing, shutdown commands, etc. Personally I use browsers own manager (if it even has one) to download smaller files and separate manager for bigger files. And for the Adobe part: I definitely agree. It is one of the dumbest ideas to make the user use some crappy (they almost always are) manager that makes downloading very frustrating and time consuming process. benac
Personally i find that the pause feature fails alot (And yes i have the latest version). I'll try one of these plugins.

Bobster
The pause feature has never worked with me. Same here :( I recommend FlashGet, it's always worked fine for me (Y)
Skyfrog
I like Firefox and I've used it since it was Phoenix, but the resume feature has never, ever worked for me. I wish they would either fix it or get rid of it. There's no point in having a pause button that doesn't even work.
LunarFalcon
Even though the pause/resume feature has never worked for me either, I still love the basic download manager in firefox. I use the download manager tweak extension, just so I can have it as a tab in my existing window instead of a pop up box. It's simple and keeps everything organized. I can't believe IE still doesn't have a feature like this. With all of the changes in IE7, this is one of the features that keeps me from switching back from firefox to IE. (that and the ability to stay signed in to sites I frequently visit like neowin without having to log in every time. If IE could do those 2 things, I'd probably be using it now)
sdb815
There's no point in having a pause button that doesn't even work. I agree, hell it might even fix the memory leak if they removed the pause function. :D
primexx
I use Fx for small files, and FDM for larger files. I recommend against FlashGet, It has malware. Free Download Manager ftw.
+John. Subscriber¹ Posted July 26, 2006 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 26, 2006 I really wish they would implement a broken download thing. For instance, when your connection dies, it should be able to start it from where you left off. Unless it already does this, and I've been getting annoyed for no reason for the last 2 years :(
benac
Even though the pause/resume feature has never worked for me either, I still love the basic download manager in firefox. I like that it's 'lite' in size, however i do wish that it actually worked 100%. Im trying DownThemAll so far it seems good.

Where do get off saying that? I don't think it would get a 5-star ZDNet Editors' Pick if it did.
Salgoth
Been using DTA since before 0.9.8.4. I'll still be using it when it hits 1.0!

IceDogg
http://www.downthemall.net/ That's what still amazes me about Firefox. No mater how much I look at extensions there is always one that I manage to miss that's great, or new one that comes out. I had seen this one but thought it was just an extension to download all the stuff off a site with one easy click. I didn't know it was a download manager as well. THANKS.. now trying. PS. I've read where they plan to work on the DL manger for Fx version 3, but it was a while back and I'm not sure it's still in the plans.

I've read where they plan to work on the DL manger for Fx version 3, but it was a while back and I'm not sure it's still in the plans. I don't think it has been added yet. I have the trunk version of Firefox 3 (Minefield) installed on my desktop box and I haven't noticed it. It automatically updates itself daily (or just about). Version 3 is a long long way off.
HoochieMamma
The Pause/Resume in FireFox works fine with standard http/ftp links
Post-It Note
The Pause/Resume in FireFox works fine with standard http/ftp links  The "pause" is actually just downloading at a slower speed. It doesn't actually stop downloading like how opera or flashget does it. For example, you cannot pause a download in firefox, close the browser, and resume the download.
