Bt Signs Broadband Pact With Microsoft

Dominant British fixed-line operator BT Group Plc said on Wednesday it had signed a formal strategic alliance with U.S. software giant Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people) to develop more high-speed Internet services.

The alliance follows two deals BT struck with Microsoft in September, including plans to offer Web services across different computing platforms and a partnership to offer broadband Internet connections to users of Microsoft's Xbox Live games console.

The alliance puts BT on an equal footing with Microsoft's other telecoms partners around the world, South Korea's KT Corp <30200.KS> in Asia and Verizon (nyse: VZ - news - people) in the United States.
