SomaliMafia
Hi I can't recall the last time I was so angry. I just logged into my hotmail account to take care of some business, write a few emails and all the usual. When I logged in it said something like "This account has been inactive... blah blah... do you wish to reactive?" I pressed "continue". Messages like these come up every now and then so I assumed it was just normal. Then I saw the horror. All my emails from the last 5 years have been deleted. Everything and all the folders had been wiped clean. I had hundreds and hundreds of emails containing pictures from my friends overseas, internet shopping details and receipts, account information, emails from my friends and relatives and even work buddies. All the memories and stuff. They simply arent there anymore. All my contacts are still there, but nothing else. HOW THE **** CAN THIS HAPPEN!? I have used MSN messenger _every_ day through trillian and manually logged into hotmail at least 3 times a week! I am gutted beyond all comprehension. 5 years down the drain. Unless I can get all those things back, heads will roll. This is FUBAR'd so hard Sorry for being so aggressive, but this is just something I never expected to happen. Do you guys think that I or somebody else can recover my stuff? Any suggestions? What am I supposed to do now? :pinch:   :o :(
Tomo
To be honest you should have saved all that stuff onto a DVD or your hard drive instead of relying on Hotmail to be a perfect service!
garbagestrike
I'm trying not to laugh here anyways, there is no way to recover any of that information. should have backed them up...
Orry Verducci
Hotmail is likely to have a backup of the stuff, but I doubt they will use it just for you. Earlier I kept getting runtime errors on Hotmail which could be related, but then I'm using WLMail so it may not be.
Bawx
Can MSN be to blame here? Call 'em up.
GNRambo
Happened to me too, a week ago. I don't think theres much you can do. You can always ask your friends to re-send those images.
hotdog666al
1) Try and get in DIRECT contact with MSN. - They will have lots of backups. 2) Switch to Gmail. I'm not trolling with the gmail comment, I'm serious, the whole account closing/deactivating thing just doesn't happen with google.
XerXis
explain your problem to msn, they have backups :)
SomaliMafia
Thanks I just sent email to MSN support. I hope they can so something about it. Really hope they can. I am already using gmail, but only for a few months so all my main stuff is in hotmail :/ I back up files on my computer, but I never considered backing up emails. I just take it for granted that my emails wont just vanish. How do I even back up emails? I just cant burn them to CD since they are not files. hmm :( I hope this thing will get solved and anyone who laughs should GTFO imo :(

Agreed, you should never expect too much from a free service.
SomaliMafia
Agreed, you should never expect too much from a free service. Perhaps, but still things like these shouldnt happen if Microsoft wants to compete in the IM and (free) email service market. Im going to catch some shuteye and hope that I will feel better in the morning. Good night

MrKuro
I'm trying not to laugh here anyways, there is no way to recover any of that information. should have backed them up... I have to agree it is funny . . but man I feel your pain . . it sucks when things like this happen . .you need backups, you can never just assume it will be fine  sorry for your loss . . but things like this are inevitable. I only use my webmail to view messages while on the road, I also have Outlook copy everything onto my pc. From there, once a day, the pc/laptop syncs with my main raid5 server in my basement. Multiple copies of important information = very important ... Redundancy!!! Everbody learns the hardway. Three years ago, I was only running a Raid0 160gb x2 in my only pc, speed was great, and I never thought anything of it. Well one night I left it to defrag, and one of the drives happened to die. This also happened to be the night before a major powerpoint presentation that I was going to make in the morning. I lost everything . . vacation photos, tonnes of music, research, and my 4 months worth of work on this presentation I was going to present. . . . thats how people learn. again sorry bud ;) Edited September 30, 2006 by cooljerk_dv
