ry00n
Beta 1 of Opera Software's new browser is now available. The company began working on a total code re-write not long after Opera 6 launched in order to provide the flexibility needed to add support for DOM, improve support for DHTML, and create significantly better news and e-mail clients. This version is anticipated to be a free upgrade for users who purchased 6.0 while also keeping the ad-supported version free. Release notes are expected to be posted tomorrow. Information will likely be available through Opera's beta software newsgroup. DigitalDJ
Opera for Windows introduces the looks and the performance of an exceptional Web browser. Opera's user interface has received a major overhaul with the new start-up dialog, and new default buttons, skin and panels in a blue and white color scheme that can be changed back to classic Opera look or another design. At start-up you can select a single or multiple document interface (SDI/MDI). Opera's new looks are complemented with exciting features such as the Personal Bar and Pagebar, hotclick, improved window handling, bookmarks search, redesigned preferences, new shortcuts, extensive drag and drop, and support for Unicode and LiveConnect. Quboid
Whoa! That is ugly! I hope the final release has some themes, or an option to use the default Opera6 look! But... CCS Form elements! That's the one thing, until now, MSIE has had over Opera.
Quboid
For anyone else who thinks this is fugly, I've made a theme. It's loosely based on Opera 6, with a background image I found god knows where. I think it's a big improvement, but I know it could be improved a lot more if I had: 1) A clue about skinning Opera 2) Any artistic talent ... but I have neither, so wait until the final version for a decent skin. :) Download it from the link below and copy the zip to whereever you want. Load O7 and to go File > Preferences > Browser Look. Where it has the current button set, click on "Choose". Change "INI files (*.ini)" to "All files (*.*)" in the filter and select the zip file you just downloaded. You don't need to uncompress it or anything. Toxikk Veteran Posted November 13, 2002 Veteran Share Posted November 13, 2002 wow. they have something going here. it seems to render a lot better and like they say, it is fast. if they keep this up this could finally put them in the browser race for real.
