Why doesnt Apples closed ecosystem work for Mac's?

Recommended Posts

I was sitting around and thinking about why the iPod does so well. Alot of people believe that a big part of it's success stems from the fact that it has a closed ecosystem. iTunes only works with iPods, and iPods only work with iTunes. It makes things simple and easy for the consumer. They dont have to worry about finding a compatible store with compatible file types.

This concept worked for the iPod, making it the most populer MP3 player in the world. But it obviously hasn't worked for Mac's, hence why PC's are the iPod of the computer market.

Why do you think this is?
