Norton's R & D for OS X must be pretty cheap.... of course, the day may come, God forbid it, when we need them!
ninjakarl
There are viruses for every operating system, there's just no where near as many for Unix based systems as there are for Windows. Norton ftl

macro
I wonder what percentage of their customers on Mac OS X know about the lack of viruses on Macs. It would be interesting to see if they did a survey or something...
betasp
I prefer ClamAv for the Mac. It uses few resources and could do the job during the first real OSX outbreak. There really are not any OSX viruses in the wild, but you want to be prepared for the day a virus writer jumps on an exploit.
+virtorio MVC Posted October 11, 2006 MVC Share Posted October 11, 2006 (edited) It's only really worthwhile if you want to use your Mac as a server (mail server, file server etc) that Windows computers might connect to, so you can check for and remove viruses before your Windows machines access them. bontakun
My department provides Symantec and Norton for any student who wants it and it's amazing how some people just have to have an AV on the Mac, I tell them there are no viruses and it just doesn't really sink in for some reason, because they usually just ramble on about needing to be protected (from....?). Toastyone
They have it because PC users are so used to having anti-virus software, if they switch to Apple they see it and think "oh yeah I need to make sure I don't get any viruses on my new Mac, gotta get this" :pinch:
