FOX and Universal Drop Halo Movie

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures, which previously acquired the movie rights for the Halo movie, have abruptly backed out of the project.

Although the studios claim the reason was the budget, the filmmakers revealed that the reason the studios exited the project was a discrepancy over the profit participation of Microsoft and the filmmakers.

"The only budget the filmmakers every spoke about was $145 million less the 12.5% rebate that you get from shooting in New Zealand, which would put it at about $128 million," Ken Kamins, a representative of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, said. "That was the only number that was ever discussed."

"What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment. Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungee (the studio that designed the original game), respectfully declined."

Now, the questions remain. How long will this delay the release of the movie? Which other studio would pick up the movie rights? Definitely not Columbia Pictures nor Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, since they are both Sony?s properties. Warner Bros. may be?

whatever... game based movies are not that good anyway. Even though I'm a big halo fan, I was not looking forward to this movie
Exactly. The fewer video games movies there are, the better.

Of course you were. Theres a reason you are posting here.

Its not like you knew about any of the movies which come out at any given weekend 2-4 years in advance.

This weekend:

Mary Antoinette

The Prestige

Flags of our Fathers

Flicka

I first heard of Flicka like 2 weeks ago (trailer on TV).

I first heard of Flags of Our Fathers probably a month ago (trailer in theaters).

I first heard of Mary Antoinette like 1 week ago (after visiting a movie website).

I first heard of The Prestige like 6 months ago (preview in the theaters).

Who remembers Doom.. Didn't that put Doom out of the market LOL.

I dont expect this Halo movie to be good.. it will make lots of money from uber microsoft fan boys going to see it. I just don't expect this movie to be the #1 seller on DVD.

"...a movie of this"...what?

did u forget a word at the end of your statement? It sounds incomplete.

He meant: "... a movie like this one"

Hummm Would have been a good movie. Doom was not that bad it was funny.

Doom made me wait 1 hour and 20 minutes for the FPS sequence :(

Ahh ok...

Yeah seriously! When I heard it was coming out and reading the reviews about the FPS scene I was all hyped. Good thing I waited until it was on Cinemax. I was also ****ed that I had to wait that long!

I'm not a fan of converting any game to a movie. Games usually don't have a good story.

An exception to may role would be "Prince of Persia" which I think have a good story.
