Maximum Error
Sorry about last night and declining the CoOp invite, but me and Synthetic Darkness were already getting down. I was just blown away by how well it ran, literally super impressed. Especially when considering we are pretty much located on opposite sides of a continent from each other. Literally we hit lag once and only once, and it was during a cutscene and lasted all of 2 seconds. That was it over almost a two hour span. Just very impressed with the netcode. Since you are finished, and I am still early on, maybe you can help me progess one of these nights. ;) I was also thinking about it, what about trying to organize and all Neowin Multiplayer match (or two if we have enough people down) this weekend? Stop, please stop lol.... u guys are killing me...... living in the UK sucks............ Remember n have another neowin multiplayer match when us in the UK finaly get the game........ (gamertags same as my neowin name btw) On a side note; does anyone here work in the UK games retail industry? Any idea of when stores will actualy recieve the game? Trong
Ahh! I knew it was too good to be true. Bestbuy said they were shipping my copy of Gears of War but now they said: "Thank you for your recent visit to BestBuy.com. Unfortunately a shipping issue has caused your expedited order for Gears of War to be delayed in leaving our warehouse. You should be receiving the product in the next couple of days. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Because you are a valued customer, we would like to offer you a $10 Digital Coupon* toward a future purchase at www.BestBuy.com. Your coupon code is: ...blah..." I think I'm just going to go pick up a copy this weekend and then sell the one I recieve in the mail. EDIT: I just read Bestbuy's return policy and I should be able to return the late copy to a local Bestbuy store after I get a copy from Bestbuy. Seems cool enough. Edited November 10, 2006 by Trong
Nocstar
Yeah Larry that was definitely some of the most unique gaming experiences had last night. Co-op is like nothing else... highly impressive. When you guys play this game you realize you are playing a freaking quality game, I can't say much else that describes how this game plays pure quality. It's almost comical how cool it is when DirtyLarry joins your single player game as your partner Dom. Anyone that wants to give it a go tonight Add Gamertag: Nocstar

magik
EDIT: I just read Bestbuy's return policy and I should be able to return the late copy to a local Bestbuy store after I get a copy from Bestbuy. Seems cool enough. Exactly. I was just gonna suggest that. You should have absolutely no problem returning the late copy as long as you don't open it or anything.OT: One of my biggest complaints about GoW is that you cannot do local 4-player split screen. I see this as a fairly big negative since I frequently have people over and it's just not fun to sit and watch the other two play while you sit there. It's a shame really. They should have also had 4-player co-op since you usually have 2 other computer AI with you during the missions. Ah, well, it's still a top-quality title, though, for sure. Xbox Live multiplayer is fantastic. :)
mattmatik
Finally got my copy on the way home tonight. So far, I really enjoy it...the presentation, the controls, the absence of a HUD...everything is awesome. My issue comes with my own ability to be any good at these types of games. I started off on Hardcore because I really like games to be worth it to be beat...and this might have been a mistake since I can't get my damn ass out of the prison! It's a damn training mission for crying out loud. I had this same problem with Double Agent (I'm still working on the prison breakout mission in that game). I think I concentrated on sports games too much for the past 5 or so years. Hahahaha! Anyway, I'm holding off MP until I can get this straightened out. It's taking me some time to get used to the use of cover and how to properly move seamlessly between two cover areas. Definitely worth the purchase though! spenser.d
Yeah, once you get the cover system straightened out, it kinda just comes to you, IMO. They did an excellent job crafting that. My only problem with the game, and this doesn't happen often, nor is it a great deal on Casual, is that there have been a few instances where my AI Teammates will be standing in a doorway I need to go through and they don't move, so I have to go out of my way to make them follow me so they move. Oh and then there's the part the Berserker is chasing you and you have to make it bust down pillars so you can get a shot with the Hammer...yeah Dom decided to stand in it's way more than once...that does not help the cause :p -Spenser
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted November 10, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 10, 2006 For anyone who is down to join the Neown Gears Of War Multiplayer Matches, I just started a new thread about it here. I pretty much need help from anyone who is willing. Send me a PM if you are down to help out with it. I am off to bed, that thread took me forever to write, but I will check it when I get home from work tomorrow (and probably while at work). Shadrack
So far I'm very impressed with the game but haven't actually made it far enough to give a worth while review. The graphics are stunning though..very impressed with how smooth everything looks. Best graphics I've seen on an xbox 360 games. Gameplay is still a little awkward for me. I have very little "training" w/ FPS games and gamepads, and this game plays a LOT like a FPS. The 3rd person angle is nice as the character models are terrific and it makes sense to be 3rd person because of the "cover" aspects of the game. I still would much rather be playing this game with a keyboard+mouse... I just don't feel like I can aim fast enough with the gamepad then I can with a mouse. The ambiance of the game is fantastic as well as the music. I look forward to progressing forward but I'm finding that it takes me a couple of tries per battle before I progress on the easiest difficulty setting! I haven't had a "disc read error" yet.. *knock on wood*. I was having that error when I purchased Dead Rising. When I took it back to Gamestop the guy was a real dick saying "this disc is prestine..don't know what your problem is..." blah blah blah. He eventually gave me another copy and the new copy worked perfectly fine w/ no disc read error at all. I hate Gamestop and I've decided to stop going there. I actually had this game on reserve there and they STILL don't have it in to this date. I called them since the 7th and they've said everyday "it should be in tomorrow..." I eventually went to Best Buy and they had it on the 8th *roll eyes*. Screw gamestop. I don't know why all the employees have such smug attitudes. For GOD SAKE YOU WORK AT A VIDEO GAME RETAIL OUTLET...that does not make you "the ****" by any standards. Ok..sorry for that tangent. Just every time I go in there one of the employees says something smarky like "oh that game is really hard to find...blah blah blah" whatever, i can order it online right now and have it in two days you ****ing ######. Don't get me started on how they are always trying to get you to reserve games (which they never get on the release date) or sell back game for **** amounts. I mean, christ, they give you a whole ****ing $5 discount on USED xbox 360 games.. WTF is up with that?!?!?!? Then they say you can buy a "card" which will give you a reasonable price. I shouldn't have to buy a ****ing card to get a decent price on a USED game you ****ing ######. Ok..i'm done.
SmacK
Sum up the game in 3 letters OMG. The game is just amazing! Try playing the game online co-op, I had a blast! If people need a reason to jump for a X360 , this game would be it. I just feel pity for those playing it on an SDTV, you're really missing out! magik
This is reassuring: Gamer Andy: Actually, I do have a question for you if you don't mindMarkRein Sure, whats on your mind? Gamer Andy: Well, I'm kinda a hardcore team guy when it comes to games like this, and one of the things I enjoyed most about Halo 2 was how easy it was to play all night with your friends against other people and have it still be really competitive... For as much fun as unranked games are, I think people take games more seriously and generally try harder when they think somethings on the line MarkRein: Yeah, Microsoft came to us and said there would be alot of cheaters if we did it that way so for right now this is how it is. In the future we might roll out some additional functionality Gamer Andy: Oh, thats such a dirty tease MarkRein: Yep :) GamerAndyHopefully they do roll-out an update to enable friends support in ranked play. myNando
I got GoW last night and OMG! I was having so much fun playing it!!!! I'm actually not a fan of shooter-games (I'm more of a fighting-######) but when I played this, the gameplay just felt so natural and intuitive...and fun as hell! I played co-op w/ my brother and we were having so much fun! ...Until my 360 froze and we quit for the night. ****! I need to get me tha fan attachment for the 360 to keep it cooler so it won't freeze as often. I'm still getting the hang of it since I'm new to the concept of aiming and shooting. spenser.d
Alright im in need of serious help and trust me do not read if you didnt get there yet. Im just going to spoiler alert this whole damn thing since its act 5. Ok in the end of act 5 when im facing that raam guy what the hell do you have to do to kill him? You have to get his bats away right? After I get his bats away he still dosent die after about 5 sniper shots to the heada nd some rounds of the chainsaw gun. ITS ****ING ME OFF Heh...just got there today General RAAM took me a friggin hour and a half to beat. You are doing it correctly, you just have to keep shooting him. A good idea is just to stay crouched behind something the the concrete block you start behind. Don't worry when he sends Krill at you - you are in light - just concentrate on getting as many sniper shots as you can. Once he gets close to you, run your ass to the other side of the car so you have room to snipe. It just takes persistance. -Spenser
