He also revealed that after the decision by Microsoft and Wignut to put the Halo film on hold, several movie studios have gone to New Zealand to check out the pre-production work that has already been done by Peter Jackson and compa "While we have no deals to announce, everyone in Hollywood is looking at it. For the magnitude of what the script is ? I've read the screenplay ? and what we need to do to uphold the 'Halo' universe for its legion of fans in the way they want to see a movie being made, no, it won't be next year." uot;

i hate to be a hater, but the Halo series is one of the most over-rated, over-hyped console games ever.

or may be you just don't "get it" :p

Personally I believe that the only reason Halo is so popular is because it brought multiplayer to consules and it did it very well. Other than that though I feel that there are better FPSs out there.

Maybe its just not for you. But in case you havent noticed, Halo is one fo the biggest game franchises ever. Why? Because a very large portion of gamers enjoy it, and its style of play. It was a brand new FPS with its own style and pace of gameplay, complimented with rock solid controls. For some people thats all they need to like a game. Thats all it took for me to get hooked. Every thing else that the game brought just added to the already great game I was hooked on.

I could say the same thing about the Final Fantasy series, or World of Warcraft for the PC. I like niether game, the playing style isnt for me. Does that mean those games are overrated, no. They are actually good games that appeal to a lot of gamers. So for me to say they are overrated in one sided and bias. I acknowledge that they are great games, but choose not to play them because they are not for me.

dont get me wrong I liked Halo as well but I wasn't wowed by it as many other were. I had tons of fun playing it online (for PC) and from time to time I pick it up agian. I was just saying that I don't think it deserves all the attention that it has been recieveing.

Iam definatley not a huge halo fan person, but i think its one of the most fun multiplayer game out there. Halo/Halo2 are brilliant games, and Halo3 will also be brilliant.

I really hate all this talk about hype, over hype. Hype is Overhyped.

I could say the same thing about any other popular game out there, that I dont like. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, WoW, etc... Everyone has things they like and don't like. Doesn't mean that a game is getting to much attention or is overrated.

^ I never get this.^

halo2 was much more fun than halo1 imho. what makes halo1 any better?? And what do you mean it didn't live up to the hype?? what were you expecting?? I got what I expected, and it pleased me.

I think some people take games WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too seriously. Don't get me wrong I love playing games, but some people get obsessed with what a game has to be.

Alot of people did not like the way Halo 2 handled compared to Halo 1. Some were valid points. Nonetheless, its their opinion to make. Me, I enjoyed Halo 2 and Halo 1. I thought they were both solid games.

I really like halo, I've played through it on pc, and we play it in college in multi-player pretty much everyday on the macs, great fun with loads of peoples. And I missed the whole Halo hype thing when it first launched so never got into it, its a very good game for an fps, but i think a few people get a bit too riled up over it if someone says that don't like it.

I Never played Halo 2 though, but form what I heard from quite a few people it didn't exactly live up to the hype that went with it before it launched, which is a pity for any game.

Now I am waiting for Halo 3 as a really good reason to get a 360, then I can get halo 2 and see what exactly is going on, lol, and I really hope it lives up to the massive hype that is going with it.

Unless u have played Halo by hooking up ur xbox with at your friend's place and spent "quality" weekend time :p you wouldn't get the whole Halo thing. XBOX Live is excellent but nothing beats a good XBOX lan party

I agree, single player was never really my think.. hell i never even finished it, i got bored. Multiplayer is where the fun is for me. Even though I know Halo3 will be fantastic, It's easy to predict that people will say it was overhyped.

Halo makes me sad. Bungie was my favorite gaming company (probably of all time, certainly at the time) and I watched Halo as it was being developed and live updates were shown at progressive Macworlds. I remeber how excited I was for the release of Halo 1 and that it was coming soon, and then I saw the unthinkable happen. Bungie was bought by Microsoft.

Then I had to watch my favorite company and a game I'd been waiting for for years go straight to hell.

Halo went from a wide expansive universe game (for the PC) to a poorly designed first person shooter with repetive level design and badly balanced weapons. To have this come from the same company that created Marathon 1, 2 and Infinity was just more than I could bear. The plot and story from the Marathon Universe was expansive, cryptic and timeless. Halo was nothing close to that, and never will be.

I say make a movie out of the Marathon series and call it a Halo prequel and blow the minds off of everyone with how brilliant it is.

Also, if anyone from Bungie or Microsoft reads this (hahah yah right) I'll buy an Xbox 360 if you add the Marathon series to XBox Live. There I said it.

Bungie being bought by Microsoft had little to no bearing on the final quality of the Halo titles. There were no major staffing changes and all creative rights remained more or less intact. The main reason why Microsoft bought Bungie was because it saw how profitable Halo 1 was and saw how talented Bungie is and the potential for future blockbusters was apparent (read: Halo 2)... not to mention the move guaranteed exclusivity. The acquisition didn't change a thing.

Microsoft bought Bungie before Halo 1 came out because they knew how profitable Halo 1 would be not "because it saw how profitable Halo 1 was." They wanted a blockbuster release for the Xbox (which they got). The aquisition of Bungie by Microsoft brought about MAJOR changes to the game as it was a PC game and was suddenly given a difinitive release date (something Bungie always hated in the past) and also had to be ported to the console itself. This left the engine of the game more or less intact but took away the time for polishing, plot, weapon balance, level design and all the things that had made Bungie's games amazing in the past.

Halo was originally a mac game, and it wasnt even a FPS it was an RTS.

That is what I am trying to tell everyone. By PC game I mean "Personal Computer" and not "Windows Box" although Halo was slated to be released for both platforms.

Look, it was an evolution.

Besides, Halo Wars is an RTS!

Destroying the original concept for a game and making it into a hacked up poorly designed FPS is an evolution? How exactly? Halo was a game I had been waiting for EAGERLY for over 3 years and then in an action that seemed to take place overnight it changed into the horrible thing it is today and brought a new wave of "gamers" that don't understand the fundamentals of the "separation of computer and console" and helped further encourage the gaming industry to bastardize everything that made gaming good in the name of "Better graphics." Having better graphics is not worth losing game-play and game length and replay value. If more companies besides a select few (I'm not going to name names unless I have to because I don't need to be all "fanboy") understood that game-play & game balance > graphics the industry would be a much better place than it is. There is still hope, but it isn't in the Halo universe.
