neoadorable
well after weeks of painful deliberation finally went and bought bill's box. being a considerate sort of person my only audio output is their flimsy headset, the one that came with the machine. guess what, there's no sound! dashboard et al load up fine, looks good, but totally silent. it's not on mute on the connector either. PLEASE HELP, i got GOW, COD3 and DOA4 mocking me from their cases! that's a lot of initials too! save me brothers and sisters, save me.
CPressland
The Headset? dude, this is for talking not for listening to game music, sounds etc!

neoadorable
how come they say the headset is specifically for games then? it's in the manual.
PL_ Veteran Posted November 11, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 11, 2006 It's for talking to people over Xbox Live...
Daniel.
The headset only plays voice through the ear-piece, normal game sound should come through the TV still. Daniel
Remysaus
:') you have to connect the white en red plugs to a radio/television, the headset is only for xbox live.
neoadorable
why can't the f'ing manual come out and explicitly say that? are all people involved in making consoles a bunch of a-holes nowadays? thanks for your help all, and get me Kutaragi's number while you're at it. bdsams Veteran Posted November 11, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 11, 2006 why would you want the sound of the console to come out threw that little speaker...just use your tv for sound
neoadorable
it's in my study hooked up to the LCD screen...HD but VERY quiet... and btw how do the console and headset know the diff between game sounds and voice? it's audio, coming from the same channels right? there's gotta be a reason other than "headset's not for games". please! Sheppard
Because voice is transmitted seperate to the game audio, its not all mashed into the same channels, it makes sense to have the headset just for voice so you can hear them properly, why else would the headset only have 1 speaker :p
IceBreakerG
Dude, the headset has ONE freakin earphone. Htf do you expect to get stereo sound from 1 side??? On top of that, there's a big ass microphone hangin off of it too. You think the PS3 is gonna be any different? Use some common sense instead of bashing the xbox/game manual. Read the info on the headset: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360headset/
neoadorable
lol i love this. thanks for the sobering comments. you think i wasn't pondering the lack of a second speaker/earpiece? heh heh i appreciate the honesty though and please remember to figure in the whole "out of the box for the first time" excited state. i maintain that the manual should state clearly that it doesn't provide general sound capabilities. i'm sure many other idiots like me ran into the same problems! give me a break, after all it's the first console i ever had not hooked up to a TV. so....any headphones that will give full sound support? with two speakers? heh heh. thanks! neoadorable
huh lyle, have you ever used headphones on a TV/home entertainment system? amazingly, even tho the moving pictures flitter around the display, sound emanates from the headphones rather than the speakers. oh glory! thanks for understanding mongoose...i think this thread succeeded because at least it gave ppl a laugh. they'd much rather laugh at you than help out apparently... and stop telling me to get sound from the TV. while mocking me, at the very least have the courtesy to read what i post...i'm not using a TV with the 360, but an LCD screen. that goes doubly for you Lyle, i expect more from a hatch dweller. NightmarE D
They're bashing on you because even a monkey would know that the headset is for xbox Live only. I don't really care what you say man, it clearly states what the headset is for. When you say you're hooking it up to an LCD screen and not a TV, do you mean an LCD computer monitor or what? You're not being very clear on what exactly it's hooked up to. If the sound can't run through the screen you got it hooked up to then hook it up to a stereo system. Then you can use headphones or the speakers from the stereo. Be more clear in what you're talking about and maybe people will take you seriously. Unless it's a computer monitor, I don't see why an LCD screen wouldn't have the usual audio connections in the first place. Only thing I can think of is that MAYBE there within a small door that opens near the side of the screen? My friends screen is like that and you wouldn't know it was there unless you looked in the manual or knew what you were doing. Very well hidden even though there's another set directly on the back out in the open. BTW...unless you got a very nice set of headphones, it's not going to sound anywhere near as good as it would going through a TV or surround sound stereo system. Yes but the headphones arent plugged into the tv, they are plugged into the console, you cant plug your headphones into an orange and expect the sound to come from the tv, if you want sound from the tv plug a headset into the tv. Kushan
To be fair, I would have made the same assumption. So what if it says the headphones are for xbox live, that doesn't say that it ONLY outputs Xbox live sounds. That's like saying a Video player should only play video and not audio. It's a headset, headsets are generally used as a replacement for speakers. Maybe it's just a case of different gamer ideologies. I'm a PC gamer, so when I play with my headset, all of the sound comes through it, including voice (And the amount of earpieces makes no difference to that fact). In fact now I'm curious as to how they expect you to be able to play with headphones at all if the xbox live ones don't at least have the option to output both channels. There's only one channel since the sound is just coming from other players' microphone just to talk back and forth. No need for stereo there. The earpiece doesn't block out much sound so you can still hear everything coming from the TV. You wouldn't want the main audio coming out of those cheap headsets anyway.
