magik
>> A driver is released to allow the use of the Xbox360's HD-DVDROM on your pc!The same day the XBOX360 HD-DVDROM Addon was released to the public in USA, we at blueprint figured out how to use it in windows, now as of this moment, officially, the movie that came with the hardware "King Kong" is currently a Dual Layer (30GB) disc so it would appear the studios are aiming for that size minimally for the majority of movies to start off with at least, this of course mean's you will not be directly copying any hd-dvd's as of yet. However, the most important thing is were now able to read the UDF (Universal Disc Filesystem) v2.5 which is currently used by the Toshiba Corp with there first generation HD-DVDRom drives. You can see the entire contents of the HD-DVD Media when in the drive. Again, these are litterally Toshiba Corp drivers for the file system used with HD-DVD. We did not create these drivers ourselves, so we cannot modify them, however there availability is limited to specific machines which were familiar with from our places of business, and we will continue to get the latest updates of these drivers and make them available to you as they're released to us. X-SIt was bound to happen eventually, but I didn't think it'd be this fast! Apparently, these are internal Toshiba drivers... looks like either someone overlooked something or there's a pretty deep mole. Either way, great news for those looking for a cheap HD-DVD Drive. (Y) Update Apparently, the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive has built-in support on Windows Vista: Xbox360.qj Edited November 13, 2006 by magik
r4esh
Pretty sick, but arn't those HD disks like hella expensive? Like 5 bucks a disk or somthing?
magik
It's not for burning blanks or anything, it's mainly for playing/viewing contents of the disk on windows.

S7R1K3R
I knew it could be done. This is gonna be a big seller if Microsoft releases a real driver for it.

Shadrack
Holy Cow! I didn't realize that the HD-DVD add on was already released for the xbox 360. If it works with windows too then that is excellent. I hope Microsoft releases an official driver (although I intend to use it only on xbox 360). For some reason, I doubt they will. Simply because it may help push xbox 360 sells... (?). Not sure. Anyway, $200 for an HD-DVD player sounds much better then the price of Blueray. Neo003
If I read correctly it's just to view the files, not play not copy just view the files in explorer. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Yea, I'm pretty sure it's just to view the files. But that's how it works, that's how DVD Drives work. The Driver only lets you view the files, you need DVD Playing software (like Windows Media Player 11, VLC Media Player, PowerDVD, etc) to play the DVD Movie. Regardless, if you can view the files, then it's only a matter of time before software is developed to play it.

sweetham
Could this possible lead to the ability to stream an HD movie from the PC to the 360 through the HD drive? That would be kinda cool.

sweetham
I don't think that is possible. But why u wanna do that. Because the HDDVD Drive is to big and bulky IMO and Id rather have it out of the way and not viewable hoooked up a PC in a different room. Im not really a big fan of add-ons that are not internal.

Yep, to play DVDs or next-gen DVDs requires the drive which reads the discs and a decoder which plays the content. The decoder must not only be able to decode the movies, it also has to decrypt them and follow all the copyright protections defined in the format. This is why you must use PowerDVD or WinDVD to be able to play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies. They are the only ones who have announced products that will decode and decrypt the movies. We are all spoiled now with DVD because usually we get some kind of decoder for free when we buy graphic cards or with the purchase of a new computer. Media Player Classic and VLC Player decode DVDs for free :) but great that the drive (and driver) supports windows :p

myNando
It'd be kind of dumb to stream an HD movie from your PC to your Xbox and then let's say, you want to pee because you gotta go back to your PC and pause/resume from there. Eek! lol Were you guys talking about through Windows Media Center? Cos if so, then, forget what I said...:shifty:
