Movies are rent only, tv shows are for keeps.

Movies can be watched an unlimited number of times the first 24 hours. Plays after that period will cost the same as the initial download, although the movie data isn't necessarily deleted. You can keep the movie data on your drive up to 14 days without re-downloading it.

Incorrect. To clarify:

If you download a Movie Rental you store it on your Hard Drive for up to 14 days, at which point it will automaticlly be deleted (or unplayable, not sure which). After you start watching the Movie for the FIRST time, then your 48 hour (not 24 hour) time to watch it starts. You can watch the movie as many times as you want within that 48 hours after which it will be unplayable until you rent it again.

So, download a Movie Rental, you have 14 days to start watching it. After you start watching it for the first time, you have 48 hours to watch it as many times as you want. When time expires, it is no longer playable unless you re-rent it.

bah.. it'll take forever to download any movie on my crappy canadian 1.5mbps adsl.

Not really, we're all limited to ~1.5mbps on LIVE :s

Atleast here in Europe is damn slow..

I dont get why we pay to play - Id much rather pay for downloading and getting more bandwidth!

If we purchase a show or movie download it and then remove it, can we redownload without paying another fee? Also does this support downloads to external USB drives?

Yes, you can re-download without paying another fee. Xbox Live Marketplace remembers everything that you have previously purchased on that account.

I'm not sure if it supports downloading to USB Drives. Try it out and be sure to let us know! :)

From looking on the xbox.com forums, you CANT use USB drives yet. Many are hoping for an update in the future to all it. I guess we'll see.

i just tried downloading one of the music videos listed as free, and the option of changing the storage device is there, but usb devices aren't listed...only the hard drive is.

so hopefully there will be an update or something.

totally unrelated, the previews take forever to download for shows and movies.

I just wish streaming was possable =[.

yeah me too but it's way too slow for that, atleast right now. The previews take much longer to download than the length of the actual preview...so I don't see streaming happening any time soon. atleast not at a reasonable rate.

Well there is the "Ready to Play" that I explained before, so if you're worried about time-till-watch then that should fix that. But if you're worried about storage space then yea, it's a bummer. But I'm sure they can enable USB Device storage as an option later down the line.

well man, i guess everyone's on live raping it. I get the following:

Xbox Live Marketplace

Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please Try again later.

Status code: 8015300c

[OK]

Crazy, even when i finally get in and try to hit the "confirm download" option it stays there spinning for a while before it actually goes. couple times it locked up on that screen and i just left it for like 2 mins and then it went back to the normal with the downloads going and queued in the background! Guess Microsoft didn't anticipate this much attention for downloading stuff. Some of it seems pretty cheap too. 160 points for the 480p version of CSI:NY and is about 800MB? The 720p version is 240 (i think) and about 2GB!!!!

Yeah, this morning before I left for class I checked out a preview of V:Vendetta and South Park. This evening I tried to check some other previews and it wouldn't start up so I cancelled it.

When you think about it, that's a helluva lot of bandwidth MS needs to push this stuff.

thanks God XBL is a "series of tubes" and because of that the gaming tubes were not affected by the overload going on during the first day of availability of the media tube...  :p

6gb thats ridiculous would take like 6 hours to download or more... quite useless unless you have cable

You have the option of the Standard Definition version which is a damn sight smaller, but obviously the service isnt for everyone, why are you whining?

actually, i don't think it matters much what speed internet you have because it's going ridiculously slow anyways.
