Microsoft Inadvertently Confirms Gears of War Trilogy

On several occasions, CliffyB has been asked about a follow-up to Gears of War but he has avoided confirming a sequel but it seems that Microsoft is already counting on a Gears of War trilogy.

In an interview with GameDaily, Jeff Bell, the Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business unit at Microsoft, has accidentally confirmed that the publisher plans a trilogy of games set in the Gears of War universe. Speaking on the ?Mad World? commercial, Bell sa"The goal of this ad is to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the Gears of War trilogy.";

There you have it, straight from the horse?s mouth. Like there would be any doubt that the fastest-selling Xbox game ever and most-played title on Xbox Live would not get a sequel...

Hope it's a prequel type, i need some background info ...

I would def think they left out a good amount of the story to leave room for a prequel... would also be a nice idea to release the prequel next and then follow up with episode 3 where the original GOW ends(disclaimer... i have not yet finished GOW so i have no clue about the ending i am just speculating)??...

wow.. the games a hit for a short time, and already they are making 2 & 3.. Microsoft is jumping the gun on this one.. at least come up with a lot of ideas and put as many together for gears of war 2 as possible.. then see how 3 works out

lylesback, I imagine this isn't a spur of the moment thing. 2 and 3 more than likely came into existence at the exact same time 1 did and it's just one big story cut into 3 games (I'm not saying, obviously, they were all built at the same time, likening to movies like Pirates 2+3 or Matrix 2+3, but it's close to that). I guess what I'm saying is it's kinda like how Bungie has a Halo Bible, with every single tidbit of the Halo universe, story and all combined in one place...well it could be put as a Gears of War Bible, saying they already have all the ideas for what 2 and 3 are going to be, they just need to do the actual development process. It obviously sounds like a Trilogy was always in the works, so I don't think they're jumping the gun at all. They're just being smart and milking it for all it's worth. Considering the downright success of 1, I think they made the smart decision, marketing-wise.

well of course milking this puppy for all it's worth is the smart decision, i would do the same. but the game only launched a short time ago, and yes it is very very popular, but don't you think microsoft is flapping there mouths by saying "were gonna do part 2 and 3". If anything, just do Part 2, and if people still find gears of war, do another game, and so forth. Square doesn't say "we're gonna do a Final Fantasy 15, 16, and 17".. they do one game at a time, and see how that goes

whatever, it's microsofts money, and they got lots of it

Well, they kinda do. :p Aren't there multiple games of FFXIII coming out, and didn't we know about this far before FFXII was even released in North America?

Don't forget that this wasn't an official announcement or anything. It was just one person at Microsoft making the mistake of saying the "Gears of War trilogy...". :pinch: I'm sure they were already planning on doing 3 games.

With the way the first one ended, it would've been lame if there wasn't at least a sequel.

Maybe it was always meant to be a Trilogy. Bioware's Mass Effect is a trilogy and the first game's not even out yet.

I doubt it. They tend to make movies/games in such a way so that there is possibility for another title, if the first is a success. You can look at it as milking as much money as possible, or you can be looking forward to the next title :p
