PrimoTurbo
I?m very annoyed with the new version of Firefox because it seems to freeze occasionally, I have never had this problem with 1.5 I only have 2 extensions, Adblock plus & CutstomizeGoogle, even when both are removed I still encounter freezing. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling firefox again but I didn?t remove my profile or any of the settings. When I installed firefox 2 I installed over 1.5 originally, I wonder if this is the cause. I notice freezing most often with http://www.channelchooser.com or with http://forums.offtopic.com, it happens maybe once or twice a day. I see the firefox icon on the left top turn to a app icon and then I need to wait like a min or two, it will unfreeze after a certain time but sometimes it doesn't and I have to close down firefox with end task. I'm on WindowsXP, any ideas? Also any way to backup my profile/passwords? I?m going to try a complete removal I think.
+virtorio MVC Posted November 22, 2006 MVC Share Posted November 22, 2006 My guess is that it's most likely a plugin like Flash, Shockwave or Java causing the problem.
noroom
Same happens to me, mostly on neowin, but it happens on other sites too. It used to happen on FF1.5 too. In my case, I think it's because my ISP has badly configured proxies. I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen when I connect to the internet at my friends' houses (it's a laptop). But I can't really remember. I doubt it's a plugin, because when FF starts in safe-mode, no plugins (nothing) is loaded.
EZRecovery
I have also experienced a similar problem with version 2. If I have about 4 to 5 tabs open, I notice that if I open another tab and go to mail.yahoo.com, it takes time to load the page and when it is finishing loading, it crashes. So far I have only seen it when I open mail.yahoo.com having 4 to 5 tabs open. /EZ
Gio Takahashi
I haven't had any problem with Firefox 2.
PrimoTurbo
I just did a complete removal of firefox, including profile, etc and reinstalled it from scratch. I'm hoping the problem was caused by installing firefox2 over 1.5, anyways I don't notice any problems at the moment but if they repeat again then I will make a post. EZRecovery
Before I install any kind of version of Firefox, I always remove it from the system, so I know that my problem did not come from version 1.5. Its something, but I don't know what it is. Hmmm, just checked my Addons and I noticed that I had Tweak Network 1.1.1 and I also downloaded Fire Tune, so I went ahead and removed Tweak Network. Lets see if that's the problem. :) /EZ

toadeater
Still getting freezing problems. Sounds to me like it's the WMP plugin. You have to be careful when you press stop on it. If you stop it while it's trying to connect or buffering it freezes sometimes. If you have multiple WMP plugins open at once that may also cause problems. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 25, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2006 I get it too, happens every so often when i navigate between pages (and change tabs i just realized). usage goes up to 50% on my system (i have dual core, so it means Firefox is using 100% of one core). I don't think it's anything special with the pages, as it happens on a lot of different pages. Edit: i first noticed this issue with the jump between RC2 and RC3, and final is RC3, so it stuck. PrimoTurbo
It's not with pressing stop, it's just certain sites and under heavy load it happens for no reason. Sometimes I have like 20-30 tabs open with videos, blogs, etc and I'm flying while other times 2 tabs and it freezes for no reason. No idea what can cause it and I noticed it on a different computer today so it's not just mine.
RGSPro
Yeah, mine crashes all the freaking time. It ****es me off. Its so random, too. Most pages aren't running flash/windows media player/java or anything. It just likes to crash. im thinking of moving to IE7 or Opera of they dont sort it out soon because its too much of a pain. Menge
let me add myself to the "me too" list... I've had Firefox 2.0 freeze repeatedly while browsing the Shell:Revealed Forums and The Daily WTF
DragonKid
In the past month, I've had roughly 40-50 freezes/crashes. I'm pretty positive that it's my computer that's causing these problems, but here's my list of extensions just in case: Adblock Plus, CustomizeGoogle, DownloadHelper, FlashGot, Google toolbar, MinimizeToTray, and Mouse Gestures. Sometimes it crashes when I'm closing a page, opening a site, or when I'm not even doing anything. Hope it gets fixed soon.
UncleOp
let me add myself to the "me too" list... See this site for the suggestion that the Google Toolbar is a primary culprit. But as I note (see the entry by "Del") another form of freeze happens under FF2.0.1 on Linux, without the Google Toolbar loaded.
noroom
I don't have the Google Toolbar installed, and I'm running XP Pro SP2
+shift. MVC Posted January 8, 2007 MVC Share Posted January 8, 2007 No problems here yet.... Like previously stated, maybe it's a problem with your plugins?
