bangbang023 Veteran Posted November 23, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 23, 2006 Ok, I want to give Opera a fair chance and see what I think about it, however, there's one minute issue that is killing it for me. It's going to sound crazy, but just call me anal. Anyway, when you choose to use the Windows Native theme and maximize the window, theres a one pixel border on each side of the window (not the panel toggle bar). This behavior isn't exhibited in Firefox. Is there a way to remove that single pixel border so as to have the site fill the entire screen?
Napalm Frog
Lol, now that youy mentioned it, it is sort of bugging me, too. It seems, though, that the issue lies within the skin itself. I only know how to tweak the actual setting of Opera itself, so sadly I cannot help you there. The only thing I can suggest is another theme, but most of them to me just look like crap. Hopefully somebody who knows how to modify themes will come into this thread.
halcyoncmdr
I'm not sure I can see it on my CRTs. But then again I'm not anal :) I can't seem to see it on my screens, but maybe someone else can help you.
Napalm Frog
I added a few lines of text to the skin.ini file found in the zip for the native skin, and removed the borders. I've inlcuded the file in this post, just place it (the entire zip file) in your "C:\Program Files\Opera\skin" directory (assuming you are on Windows). I played around with it, and everything seems to be still functioning properly, but if you have issues with the scrollbar, just post here or PM me. borderless_native.zip EDIT: Fixed bug with tabs being weird sizes. ravix7
Thanks a lot man. I'm going to give this a whirl for a day or two and see if it maybe sways me from Firefox. Go ahead, just ask any question at all in these forums, anything at all. Wee really want to get the ball into Opera's court as an alternative browser. Might I suggest as a starting point to hold down the right button while moving the scroll wheel allows you to easily switch tabs.
Napalm Frog
No problem. And yeah, anytime anybody wants help, feel free to ask. We don't have snotty fanboys yet, so help shouldn't be too biased ;).
bangbang023 Veteran Posted November 23, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted November 23, 2006 Lol, I might as well use this thread then: 1. Is there any kind of loading indicator? I like how Fx has the swirling image on the tabs to let me know a page is loading. 2. Is there a way to get newly opened tabs from a link I just middle clicked on to open in the fore ground and not the background?
halcyoncmdr
Well bangbang for your first question, you can set Opera to either put a small loading bar in the address bar that shows the current percentage, not just the fact it is loading "something", select a popup style loading section, or a simple loading bar. Right click the address bar, select customize, and then select what type of progress bar you want. You can also make a custom status bar like I have and put just about anything you want in it, from the different types of loading and status indicators, to commonly used buttons. :D http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/halcy...dr/untitled.jpg
Napalm Frog
1. In the Toolbars tab in the Appearances dialog there is a dropdown menu for various progress bars. I have the one that pops up at the bottom, but there is also one for a compact progress bar inside the address field, and simple is a further condensed version of that. Note: If you removed you physical address bar to customise the toolbar layout (like me, whereas halcyon has a layout close to default), you are limited to Simple or the Popup one. Sadly, this only applies to active tabs, and I am not sure how to get progress for inactive tabs. 2. CTRL+F12 -> Advanced -> Shortcuts -> Middle click options... -> "Open in new tab"
Nigriv_LV1
If you like pixel space that much get the minimalist skin Breeze MICRO. Works for me.
Denis W. Veteran Posted November 25, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2006 @Napalm Frog: Thanks for that ZIP file. ;) 2. Is there a way to get newly opened tabs from a link I just middle clicked on to open in the fore ground and not the background? Besides going into Preferences, the Advanced tab, shortcuts... there's an easier way. Just hold SHIFT and middle click anywhere. You'll get a box asking you what you want the MMB to do. bangbang023 Veteran Posted November 26, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted November 26, 2006 Any way to remove "bookmark page..." and "open all folder items" from the bookmarks submenus?
