Pheee
OK tonight i filed my first complaint on xbox live. I will not share details of what was said, as that is not nice. But I felt that this time I would file a complaint, not something I would do lightly, but the person sure did breach the code of conduct. I was wondering, if anyone else has gone through the procedure of filing a complaint? Or is it mainly put up and shut up. I always wonder you get a 18 rated game, and I end up playing with young kids no older than 12 or 13. I must be just lucky... I am not sure what comes out of this, or if i get feedback, or if there are any more steps. I would love to play with civilized people, that dont jump on you or make racist, or patronizing, or annoying, or **** taking, or any comment like that. We are all here to play games, not shoot at the next Noob, or complain at someone for a mistake etc. I guess I am a little worked up about this, and wanted to share my experience, and thoughts. Thanks for listening.
Briandl79
Umm, I've filed complaints when I was on Live for the Xbox, but none so far on the 360.... What game were you playing, and could you give us an indication of what was said?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted November 24, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2006 Usually I will leave abusive players bad feedback, but don't bother to take it any further. Saying that, I've never really came across anything too serious. I completely agree with the younger kids playing 18+ games. Halo 2 was great online before it was infested with abusive kids, it made me stop playing unless it was with friends I know in real life
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted November 24, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2006 I have left quite a few negative feedbacks. I believe that is what the system is for, and I also like to think it means I will never encounter those idiots again. Almost all of the negative feedback I have left were all kids under 16, probably have of which were close to 12 years old, who simply just would not shut up at all. I know for a fact a few of the negative feedbacks I left were for people who quit early at games. Honestly, that is the offense that bothers me the most. I know two were left while playing NBA 2k7. Both people were losing (no surprise there), but the one time the kid was only losing by 3 with like 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. He had a chance to come back as it was close the other time. That was really punk ass.The other time the guy quit with 5 seconds left and he was going to lose. I also encounter a lot of obviously white little punks using the N word. For me that is something I personally think sets the human race back hundreds of years, and I cannot stand it. I think it is as ignorant and un-responsible as a person can get, so if they are using that word, especially when using it in a negative way, I will provide bad feedback. Oh, one time I gave it to a person, he very well might have been around 18 or so, who just insisted on signing the entire time. Besides little kids that talk trash, there is nothing I cannot stand more than people who insist on singing the entire time. So 1 of my negative feedbacks was for an idiot who kept singing. In regards to little kids playing M games, it is really actually quite shocking what a problem it truly is, and I blame the parents and only the parents. My Story About Mr. I Am Not A Kid I Am 12 Years Old Playing Gears Of War. I was playing Gears Of War about a week ago, and one of my teammates the very first round started talking, saying something like "I really hope you guys do not suck. My last team sucked." The voice was super young to me, so all I said was "Okay Kid. You Got It." The voice then replied, and I am not kidding, "I am not a Kid. I am 12 years old." I just laughed, felt like a loser for a split second as he could be my son, then laughed again realizing I was not a loser and I was glad he was not his son. Mr. I Am Not A Kid I Am 12 Years Old, just as I feared, went on to talk trask the entire time, mainly to his own teammates about how bad we all were! Meanwhile he was in last place)! After approximately four rounds straight of this trash talk and ignoring him succesfully, I just had to ask this kid just what in the hell he was doing playing the game if he was only 12 years old. Just as I imagined, this question angered Mr. I Am Not A Kid I Am 12 Years Old extremely, and he started attacking me directly. I just told him flat out and very matter of fact like that until he had hair on his testicles, he had not right talking to me, one of his elders, the way he was. That made the rest of my team crack up, all except Mr. I Am Not A Kid @ 12 Years Old naturally. He then signed off a minute later. I left him negative feedback hoping the system works and I never have to hear his voice again. So yeah, bottom line is I will, and have no problem with, providing people with negative feedback. Maybe I am bitter in my old age, but I can honestly say it is because I really hope it means I will never encounter that particular jackass again. Brandon
Ive left negative if the guy wont shut up the entire game, but i dont mind leaving early. Some of those 25 min CoD2 rounds I would get in would be just too long and something (phone, door etc) would interfere
ienhz
LOL and I thought I was the only one encountering racists on Xbox Live. Gears of War seems to be full of them.
FusionXN1
This is why i wont get live. Theres too many kids who sing or insist in making what could be a great game a terrible one and wasting other peoples gaming time. I dont mind bad language because you hear it on TV but singing (ok but not all the time), stupid insults against other players and people who join and leave / attack their same team just to make other gamers gameplay suck I wont stand for. Im sure you all agree.
mattmatik
Twice I've left negative feedback. One for a game of UNO (UNO! can you believe it??). One of the Live opponents kept talking crap to another player because the guy was not playing with a strategy. For me, UNO is a game to just sit around and BS with, have fun, and meet some folks. Well, when you start personal attacks because someone doesn't play the way you feel they should play, I draw the line. Another occasion was when I was playing NCAA Football07. It seems sports games are being ruined by the lack of negative effects of people quitting in games. I was losing by 10 in the 3rd quarter and I adjusted my defense to play to his offense (he constantly would roll his QB out and throw 50 yard bombs). To me, that's part of sports games - adjusting your strategy. I didn't care that he was playing that way but what ****ed me off was I ran 2 plays the same way, and the dude started yelling and finally quit. What kind of BS is that? I easily could have called him out for his play but - IT'S JUST A GAME!. I'm almost afraid to play online anymore. I had a little faith restored when I played online with NBA 2K7 against a chap in England who was very friendly and put up with my 20-9 run at the end to beat him. I'm not sure if MS can do anything about it but I can't imagine how Halo 3 will be.
5Horizons
I usually just leave negative feedback, although I picked the underground zone so I try to ignore those types of people. The thing that really sucks is the annoying people who put everyone on edge so that even a little friendly jab about something causes people to overreact... Everyone gets too defensive and then a lot of the fun is gone. I definitely leave feedback for people leaving early. I've had way too many people quit on me in Fight Night because they weren't very good. I've always wondered about the complaint filing process, though... So let us know how it goes. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted November 24, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2006 I've had a really good mature experience with Gears of War on Xbox Live. I went on, my teammates cooperated, and I was actually "giving" orders. No one questioned me. We all added each other and said bye. It was so much fun. Unfortunately, the "immature little 12 year olds" are like an infestation. I'll soon encounter them, and when I do... they'll leave with every swear word in existence echoing from my mouth and ringing in their ears, haunting them in their dreams. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted November 24, 2006 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2006 HAHAHAHAH that's awesome. I need to start playing these games with you, man! That sounds great! No doubt man. If you see me on playing a game you have, send me an invite, and if I am free I am down. In fact I am trying to get an Informal Member match of GOW tomorrow afternoon, more details can be found here. Honestly besides my little run in with Mr. I Am Not A Kid I Am 12 Years Old, my experience playing Gears online with people I do not know has been nothing but a solid one. Only one other time I have run into an idiot, and they were also younger, and also they were talking crap to their own team. Sincerely 95% of the time, the people I have played Gears with whom up until that point were total strangers to me, have all been amazingly cool, and almost everyone is always down to play as a team. I am definitely quite happy with the overall vibe of online players with GOW. Overall it is a mature, competitive but non aggressive atmosphere. mattmatik
Just curious but, how do you all take to new players in a game like GOW? I'm interested in the Neowin GOW match but I have yet to play online and my teamwork/strategy skills are untested. I think that's one of my biggest concerns is getting into a game, totally sucking, and being ridiculed for it. Sports games are different, as it's just you vs. opponent. But, it seems that a game like GOW needs teamwork to be effective.

Ayepecks
I give positive feedback on most people I play, but anyone who trash talks gets a negative from me. I don't care who it is. I've had plenty of people quit on me, but it's not so bad that I leave negative feedback on them. What I do hate is that my entire team left in a GOW game and I played two rounds against 4 people only to leave after getting sick of it and got negative feedback from them. Now that ****es me off. GOW is probably better than other games, but you do have people who are 15 and 16 (and even younger than that... a lot younger) that are complete ###### with some of the language they use ("you f***ing f***t"). I absolutely can't tolerate this crap. What ****es me off is when you get so mad at them you can't help but curse back at them. Question: does "View Rep" actually show all the rep you guys have got? Mine says 100% avoided for quitting early, and I know I got that once -- and once is all as far as I know, as I stated above -- but it doesn't say anyone preferred me even though a lot of people rated me that, according to what they told me in games after we played. And yet my rating is still 5 stars. Is rep not feedback? O_o

But, it seems that a game like GOW needs teamwork to be effective. I truly believe we all have to start somewhere. And just as others helped me, it is then my responsiblity to pass that along to someone else. I would say I pretty much approach it the same exact way I approach Neowin... I do my best to contribute to and help fellow members (gamers when on Live) whenever it is possible to do so. But say we are playing with just all Neowin members... then without a doubt all you would find is help. But truly I will give as many tips and pointers as I feel the person wanst to know, and also answer as many questions as they ask and want to be answered. I can sincerely say that from my experiences as well, there are a decent amount of like minded individuals as myself. Overall I happen to be one of those players that find just as much satisfaction, if not more satisfaction, in knowing I helped someone get better at and enjoy the game more overall, than actually caring if I was doing good myself. It feels better knowing I made someone a better player or have a better experience than it does getting a kill anyday. Because the kills will always be there. Helping someone out is not always there. The first few times I played it was with complete strangers. I simply would state "I pretty much suck and have not played much at all" and I always found at least one person, and at many times my other three teammates, were more than willing to help me out in any way possible. So I would say no worries at all. Join us in a match whenever you want. So if you see me online and you want to play, do not even hesitate. My biggest problem these days, and it not even a problem per say and it is a very good problem to have, is I tend to get more requests and invites to play these days than I can personally handle. So if I deny it, and this goes to everyone here as I know I have denied quite a few requests, it is nothing personal at all, it just means either someone else has already asked me to play with them, and/or I am just wrapped up in playing my myself. 80% of the time I will also reply and let you know why I cannot play if I do deny it. And for the record, I do from time to time talk some limited smack, but it is all very light hearted in nature and truly in jest, and you will know I am just kidding when I am saying it. But overall I will help out as much as I possibly can.
Pheee
I truly believe we all have to start somewhere. And just as others helped me, it is then my responsiblity to pass that along to someone else. I would say ... If Xbox Live was full of people like you, it would be an amazing place to game. I do not know you personally, but from your comments and feedback, you are very nice and honest person. Thanks for all your support. Ok back to my experience, it was infact on GoW, the person did sound very young, not sure if its internet squeal or just the kid. It just started out, I was hiding behind a truck, Locust was approaching, I jumped outinfront of him to chainsaw, it was just unfortunate that this person show hik to the ground as I went for the kill, and effectively stole the kill. Not much I could have done really. He came out with, 'Ah man, you stole my kill, why did you do that' (my inturpretation of what he said, cuase I cant type short way of saying it), and I was like 'well sorry, it was an accident, I jumped out to chainsaw and you shot at the same time', he kept on about it, and now I regret the next sentence, just trying to shut him up. 'Sorry, Im not a mean person or anything, i'll tell you what, you can take my next kill' Then it started, he ask 'Are you Jewish!', I have no idea how he comes to such a comment or conclusion!, and I replied 'No', and then he kept on, and laughing, 'your jewish, oh yeah your jewish'. I didnt say much, then I replied 'No, I am Church of England' (Christian), and he basically kept on about me being Jewish, signing about it etc. It was like that, I would say dont talk to me, I am much older than you etc, he would come back saying 'how old jewish' or 'how many jews are you' etc etc. Now I am Christian, I have nothing against Jewish people, and if someone called me jewish, I dont mind, but I would correct them, but this kid, what a prick. But for him to call people like that using a religion, and make fun that i was jewish infront of other people, I did not like that at all. He obvously is a kid, otherwise he would understand that the majority of English people are Christian or Catholic, I very much doubt we have many Jewish people at all (no offense). I have never met an English Jewish person (again no offense). Anyway, I felt that he insulted me, insulted jewish people, he was totally annoying, he was signing about it, probably annoying the other people, cause no one spoke after that. I did read the Code of Conduct before I filed the complaint. I just dont understand an 18 rated game (M), young kid playing, hurling insulting and racist comments, its just not right and the parents are to blame. I being a parent of a 2 year old, I just hope I can bring him up not to be like these 'other' kids. I am not sure what people think of this, and weather I should have filed a compliant or not. Maybe he just gets a warning via email or something who knows. I know that it is anonymous, just like feedback, you dont know who left feedback. But overall my experience has been fine, I feel alot of ranked matches I have joind, like 6 of the people know each other, so sometimes that is a bit tough. I also do remember one game of Assination, where the leader of my team, he was great, and we actually won the 10 rounds. So overall the experience can be good, but some one needs to give these young kids dummy's (pacifiers) and not mics!!!
Sheppard
After having my xbox since launch and live for the same amount of time, last night is the first time ive gave anyone negative feedback. Was cruising along on Test Drive Unlimited when all of a sudden i heared about 4 people effing and blinding, calling each other all sorts of names and racial slurrs, i asked them if they would consider not swearing please as i had a nephew with me watching and the sound was coming out of the TV and all i got was eff off. So i gave them all negative feedback.
Seabroo
Its weird isnt it though. Why is it that kids are always the seriously annoying ones? I mean, i have had some pretty mentally substandard adults too. But proportionally, its the younger kids who are really stressful for me, and always seem to think its absolutely fine to throw insults at complete strangers, definately bugs me. But to be honest, the parents are to blame, if i walked in on my (hypothetical) son throwing so much abuse around, it would definately be bye bye xbox. Also, i dont think gears of war is the kind of game i would put in a 12 year olds christmas stocking... Thats why i tend usually to play with friends, then at least one of you is hosting and if someone is really annoying you can just give them the old friendly boot... But so far it wasnt bad, ive only played pgr3, burnout revenge and pdz online, and apart from one match on pdz when a kid was screaming about how everyone sucks and are all ghey its been good. and im 18 so im not too much older, but seriously, he should have grown up, or shut of his mic.
