Question About 360 VGA Connection // HD!

Recommended Posts

If you're using the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable to connect your Xbox 360 console to a computer monitor or TV monitor with a VGA connection, you'll have the opportunity to select from a variety of resolutions. They are:

640 x 480

848 x 480

1024 x 768

1280 x 720 (equivalent to 720p)

1280 x 768

1280 x 1024

1360 x 768

So I'm using the 360 vga cable and I have a pretty nice lcd screen that I use with my 360. I was wondering if I use the 1360 x 768 resolution am I playing 360 games at 720p or not? I'm really not sure what's going on with that.

Wait, just double checking here; 2407WFP can run 1080p with the Xbox 360 ?

Also, I've heard that you won't see the difference between 1080p and 720p below 37" displays. True?

I know it can run 1080p :) i saw an article someone tried - looks best via DVI apparently but it takes 720p and under and 1080p - im not sure if 1080i works.

Dell 2407WFP S-PVA 1920x1200

Yep.

Do you have one?

1080p downscaled i was told looks better then true 720p which on most set is upscalled a little bit. Most sets that take 720p should take 1080i/p but downscale it :)

I own the 2407WFP myself :) (Got it as a free replacement to my 2005FPW ;)) I have tried my xbox on it not very good but thats because it upscales a low res, I dont yet have a 360 but looking at screenshots of the 2405 it looks good if they are the same.

That is the monitor I am using, I am wondering why it has a lower max resolution of 1680?1050... BUT I have 1920x1080 selected on my 360 and it runs fine.. What's the deal with this?

Your actually getting a crappier picture is what your doing. Your monitor is not accurately reproducing 1920x1024 as an LCD panel cannot display higher then its native resolution without using some method of interpolation, most monitors won't even let you or they will produce a fuzzy image

Either way setting your xbox 360 to 1920 x 1024 is not netting you any better picture whatsoever

Just thought I would update you, Some people are having trouble with 1080p on 24" over component. Apparently only VGA and DVI seems to work with it component is only working with 1080i.

But, I read theres issues with 1080p and Microsoft has said a fix is coming - maybe it will work then.

I found 2 pictures of xbox 360 on this monitor: component & VGA. Seems component needs brightness turning up?! Also the older 2405 @ 1080i on dash: here.

Looks greta I think, cant wait to get a 360 :) And i use dvi for my pc so i may pick up a vga cable.

EDIT: Dash on 2407: Component & VGA. :)

EDIT 2: Images on image.to see 2nd post down.

As for component, i am getting a 360 soon around xmas so Ill test it then but i think s small tweak to the factory settings menu should do it. Also i have th latest A03 rev maybe they have an earlier rev.

Anyway, your welcome. Be sure to check dell's site now and again for offers

Well I checked my lcd settings and it shows it running at 1680?1050 the max for the lcd screen ( While I have 1920x1080 selected on the xbox )... I further tested it by putting the non standard lower resolutions of the 360 as settings and some of them got bumped to the lower standard resolutions for instance I picked the 1360x768 setting and on my monitor it bumped it down to 1024x768..

So I think that I can select the 1920x1080 resolution but it just maxes out my moniors resolution and runs it at 1680?1050

(MAYBE Downscaling???? From 1920x1080->1680?1050???)

It looks beautiful nothing of the stuff you mentioned. So I believe it isnt forcing the 1080 resolution the monitor says it's running at 1680?1050 right now... so yeah...

It all depends on the monitor and what its programmed to do in certain situations. For some people it will merely stay at its max resolution. For some it will use interpolation/extrapolation to upscale/downscale the image. There is no "one" answer of how it will behave.

Im going to be using my 17" non-widescreen CRT monitor with my 360 through the official vga cable (its a samsung syncmaster 750s)

the resolutions it supports are:

640x480

800x600

1024x768

1152x864

1280x1024

which are 4:3 and 5:4 displays if my maths is working.

I was wondering,

1) (a) im sure it is but is 1280x1024 720p(or is it higher)? (b) is 1280x1024 my best option to play the 360 with on this monitor?

2) 1280x1024 is HD right?

3) ive heard a lot of people talking about 1280x720 which is 16:9 ??? (widescreen?)

4) i can resize my display horizolntally and vertically and zoom in/out so will games that are widescreen only be really bad on my monitor resolutions or is it a simple matter of resizing a little?

sorry for all the questions but can only find info on LCD monitors not CRT

anyway, any help from you is great

:) thanks!
