Question About 360 VGA Connection // HD!

Recommended Posts

Im going to be using my 17" non-widescreen CRT monitor with my 360 through the official vga cable (its a samsung syncmaster 750s)

the resolutions it supports are:

640x480

800x600

1024x768

1152x864

1280x1024

which are 4:3 and 5:4 displays if my maths is working.

I was wondering,

1) (a) im sure it is but is 1280x1024 720p(or is it higher)? (b) is 1280x1024 my best option to play the 360 with on this monitor?

2) 1280x1024 is HD right?

3) ive heard a lot of people talking about 1280x720 which is 16:9 ??? (widescreen?)

4) i can resize my display horizolntally and vertically and zoom in/out so will games that are widescreen only be really bad on my monitor resolutions or is it a simple matter of resizing a little?

sorry for all the questions but can only find info on LCD monitors not CRT

anyway, any help from you is great

:) thanks!

1) 1280x1024 is higher than 720p, but it is not widescreen. Yes.

2) Yes. Anything above 1280x720 (720p) is HD.

3) Yes.

4) not sure what you're asking. I'd just set it at 1280x1024. Some games will use that res, which is HD, some will put black bars at the top and bottom so it's in 720p, which isn't any less good.

thanks muchly :)

for 4) i meant is the problem with games that dont run at 1280x1024 that they go full screen when they should have the black bars? and would manually resizing the image using the monitors controls solve the problem or doesnt it work like that?

anyway,

again, thanks for your help!

:)
