magik
TVersity Media Server lets you manage your Internet and home media and create your personalized lineup of channels, or as we call it your Personal Entertainment Guide (PEG). It then serves this media to a multitude of networked devices in the home or on the go, overcoming their inherent limitations by doing all the necessary conversions on the fly, and thus making your media available anywhere, anytime and from any device. Here is an early preview for the on the fly WMV transcoding feature for the 360. Since we have other stuff that needs to make it into the next release and since this is not yet ready we are releasing a patch. Please try it and let us know what you think. Installing the Patch: 1. Stop Tversity 2. Extract the content of the patch zip file into the installation folder of TVersity (by default it is \Program Files\TVersity\Media Server) 3. Start TVersity, go to the 360 and browse your computer for videos. You should now see all the videos shared via TVersity plus all the online video URLs and assuming your directshow has the filters needed to decode these videos they should all play on the 360. Some additional notes: * Videos may take from 10 seconds to a minute to start. It depends on the bitrate of the video. The 360 requires 2 Megabyte of data to be provided before it starts playback. For low bitrate content (like the stuff coming from the Net) it can take a minute to get to 2 Mbyte. For hi-def content it happens very fast. * Transcoding in real time of high resolution material requires a very fast computer * The quality of the result of the transcoding, can be controlled via the TVersity GUIl. Increasing the resolution will improve the quality but will require a faster machine. You can also experiment with the compression ratios and bitrates, these all affect the WMV transcoding just like they affect the MPEG transcoding that TVersity has been traditionally doing. * You can even upconvert videos to HD if you wish and if you have a fast machine by tweaking the minVideoInfo in config.xml. * If your computer is not fast enough, you can decrease the resolution and then try again or wait till the transcoding is done and then play it. * Transcoded videos cannot be FF/Rewind during the transcoding (this is a 360 limitation) however after transcoding is done if you play some other video and then go back to the transcoded one, you will be able to seek in the file. * It is highly recommended to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11 as it includes more recent and more stable encoders. X-STold you it was just a matter of time. :)
GameOverRob
so does this do divx and xvid?
Sheppard
I cant get this thing to work. I did everything it said, added media to the library and it cant see any of the shared media. so does this do divx and xvid? Yes, it "transcodes" videos on the fly to WMV, think of it as streaming video. So anything your PC can play it can stream over the network to the xbox in WMV format. Sigurd
This is exactly what i did because i couldnt get things to show up on my 360 at first Step 1: Uninstall Tversity Step 2: Disable media sharing from inside WMP11 Step 3: Install Tversity Step 4: Reboot computer Step 5: Run the add media cmd prompt from tversity and add the directory of my videos Step 6: End tveristy process medishare.exe Step 7: Copy the 360 patch into the folder Step 8: Run MShare again Step 9: Load 360 Step 10: Disconect PC on the 360 system menu Step 11: Do a new search for a new computer on the 360 video Then it found tversity and thats how i got it to show my stuff

You dont need WMP11 for this to work, it is meant to work without other aids, I couldnt get it to work so I gave up, i got it to show my files but it never played them and kept disconnecting . Slimy
We realize the fall update's only been out a few weeks, but it seems like an eternity for those of us that have been waiting since last November to stream media to our Xbox 360s without the need for a Media Center PC. A new TVersity patch allows users to transcode video to WMV -- now in real time -- for immediate distribution to their 360 over Windows Media Connect without the pain of duped files and finding a good WMV encoder. A little fuss, a little muss, and a few minor niggles to keep this from being a prime time solution, but still, there isn't exactly a plethora of ways to get your DivX onto your Xbox, so be grateful you've got at least something for now as the hardworking hacker front actually gives the people what the people want, whether or not it fits into Microsoft's digital media business plan. magik
does this work in vista? I wanna stream HD WMV porn to my 360 :p You can already stream WMV from Vista (or WinXP or WinMCE). This is about getting non-WMV files to stream from WinXP to the 360.

magik
what about my HD avi porn then? haha, I'm kidding, but does this work in vista? thats what I really want to know As long as it's WMV, it will work. Otherwise, you'll need to recode it or use TVersity or a similar transcoding solution. I'm not sure if TVersity works in Vista, though.
