Pc_Madness
Hey guys, is there any reason in particular I might be having alot of trouble connecting to games in GoW? I'm capped (8kb down and 8kb up I think), but I have managed to connect to some games, so I'm not sure if this is the reason or what. :\ I opened all the ports on my firewall for Xbox Live a while back, so that should be fine. I'm getting errors like, "Your connection to the host has been lost" and theres another one as well, can't remember which. I can host games fine, but not join any :(

I'm getting errors like, "Your connection to the host has been lost" and theres another one as well, can't remember which. I can host games fine, but not join any :( Believe it or not, what I find to be the major reason you get at least that one specific error message "Your connection to the host has been lost," is because the games fill up that quickly. So your best bet is to try joining a match that only has 1 to 2 people listed as in the room. I know it is more appealing to try and join a room that is already listed as having 5 or so players, but chances are you will almost always get that error, I know I always do. I think what happens is when it starts searching, it takes about 10-15 seconds to report to you what it finds, at least on my end. So I believe the results are at least as old as however long the search lasted when you first started it. So when you get the results of a room having 5/8 slots, it is at least as many seconds old as however long your search lasted, maybe even a little longer. So by then, chances are by the time you try and go to join that room, the slots are already full. Hence the message "Your connection to the host has been lost" is given. I feel they just chose to use the wrong wording... Basically when you get that error, they should have said something along the lines of "The match is now full. Please try again." So try joining matches that have almost no one in them at all. They fill up quickly enough, and the longest time I ever had to wait for a match to start was like 3 minutes for the room to fill. Let me know if that makes a difference or not.
Pc_Madness
Your theory seems to be correct DirtyLarry. :) Do you know if the results returned are ordered by ping? Before I was searching for servers, and getting huge lag. Joined the first one this time around which was empty, and it was quite playable, same again this time around. :)

(Y) No clue about the ping honestly. My guess is No, because I play with my good friend a lot and he always hosts the match. He lives in the next town over, and sometimes he is towards the very bottom of the list, sometimes he is towards the top, there is no rhyme or reason to it. It would make sense they list it by connection ping though, it definitely would, so again I am not really sure. Honestly, and I am truly being serious, I have encountered lag once the entire time I have played, and I have probably played over 50 matches, and only once I have gotten lag. I do not know if I have been extremely lucky or not, but the game seems pretty damn good with that.

I know that NAT can be a problem with the voice chat not working properly, but other then that the game runs just fine. But as DJ said, it is probably just that the match is filling up very quickly. Well it should be fine, I can play Source fine, including in game voice. (trying to run it with skype = badness though). :)
Pc_Madness
Sorry, thought I'd bump this. It seems there are Latency indicators when you choose custom game, but not all the time. :\
Hupp
i wish games would allow you to switch from the graphic latency indicators to actual ping results
