Why is accessing Yahoo mail such a problem?

Recommended Posts

9 times out of 10, when I try to check my Yahoo Mail, I get this message:

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at us.f539.mail.yahoo.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as

ww.example.com instead of

www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network

connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I can surf the web fine, even the Yahoo homepage loads up, but accessing my Yahoo e-mail is a huge pain! It's almost never is available! I have to keep trying for minutes, then it finally loads. Is it that the Yahoo mail server is so overloaded that it is inaccessible? Or is it a problem on my side?

I'm using FF 2.0, and I even tried disabling ZoneAlarm, but Yahoo mail still won't load on the first try!

I got an important business e-mail last night, and I had to keep refreshing for a couple of minutes until my Yahoo mail kicked in. I was in, and when I tried to send a message, it crapped out. The e-mail was time sensitive, so I was stressing out!

I'll switch if it is on the Yahoo side, it's just that years of contacts know me by that address, so it would be a major pain!

EDIT: Now I can't even access www.yahoo.com, although the rest of the web works fine!

EDIT AGAIN: Now yahoo mail and homepage are loading up. What's going on?

You using Yahoo! Mail Beta?

No, regular Yahoo Mail. I find it hard to believe that something as big as Yahoo is down that much, but I can surf the rest of the web fine. It's really weird, and vexing! :argh:

Maybe you should try a different DNS server. If your ISP's DNS server is screwed up, you will get not found messages like that even though the site is up. Or did you mess with your DNS settings in Windows or Firefox?

I say this because I have never seen Yahoo's email servers disappear repeatedly like that. The worst I've seen is that it will stall for long periods of time.
