andrew_f
Hi, I have a HDTV, I want to connect my future 360 via component cable but there is 6 leads on the cable and my TV only has jacks for 5 of them, would I still get HD quality with just these 5 plugged in? DarkGashX
Hi, I have a HDTV, I want to connect my future 360 via component cable but there is 6 leads on the cable and my TV only has jacks for 5 of them, would I still get HD quality with just these 5 plugged in? I believe the yellow one is composite and you don't need that one plugged in, It's for SDTV. Edited November 29, 2006 by DarkGashX

AdverseDeviant
I believe the yellow one is component and you don't need that one plugged in, It's for SDTV. yellow is composite but yeah im guessing the 6th wire youre talking about is the yellow one. theres 3 for component video (red green blue) 2 for audio (red white)
Morphie
Thank's for that, just to be safe can anybody else confirm? :) You don't need to plug in the yellow one. Just the red/white audio and the other three, red, green, blue for video. The yellow is on the 360 so that it is compatible with both video types. andrew_f
So, the yellow one is only used if I want SDTV quality?
DarkGashX
Oops, I ment composite :p Ya it's for SDTVs.
devnulllore
Yellow is always composit and the lowest quality connection besides coaxial. The component connections will be a set of 3 cables colored in order, green, blue and red, and must be connected to the corrosponding colors on the TV/DVD/HD player etc... See http://www.plasma.com/acousticresearch/AP092.htm for the brand / type I use currently.
KXH
the red/green/blue are component video for HD then there is a separate yellow for SD TV, then there should be a white/red pair for analog stereo sound. Do yourself a favor and get a TOSlink cable and go fiber for audio to a receiver with 5.1 surround and a sub woofer. ;)
DarkGashX
I made an Image for you. I don't have a 360 yet but I think the Red and White ones are the correct ones for Audio Labelled.
Spartan_X
also remember to move the switch on the component cable from SD to HDTV... this image explains what each color represents...

AbandonedTrolley
What I don't understand is why people are asking these questions in the first place. From my understanding all TV's have the connections colour coded the same as the wires. Maybe it's just me but it all seems common sense.
andrew_f
Common sense? 1+1=2 is common sense, knowing if a 360 component cable needs all 6 leads in it to work as HD or not is hardly common sense.

It is common sense, but some people like to make extra certain before they do something they may have not done before. Remember, there are no stupid questions. NoLiMiT06
Just wondering how the heck are you supposed to gget Dolby Digital when there is no digital cord/coaxle for this?
spike232
Just wondering how the heck are you supposed to gget Dolby Digital when there is no digital cord/coaxle for this? All the output cables have an optical connection on then to allow you to get Dolby Digital. I had the problem that one of my sound systems dosent have an optical connection only a coax, so i had to buy a small box which converts optical to coax cost bout ?10, but its annoying having another power plug which needs a socket.
