aleni
since bought this console months ago, i have never bought other fps games for xbox 360 after trying to play perfect dark zero with a gamepad. dammit! it's so hard to control fps with gamepad, i am primary a PC gamer so i think fps is intended for use with mouse and keyboard. do you guys play fps in xbox or any other console is just as good as when you are playing with the mouse and keyboard? im not good and probably will never be good because im too lazy to get used playing fps with a gamepad. Lingwo
I used to be real crap at FPS on consoles, as i am used to mouse and keyboard but i've tried loads since Halo and also third person console games help too. Now i think i am pretty good at fps on a console... not as good as i am on a pc but i can hold my own :p I thought i'd never get used to it but the majority of console games are now 3d and will have some kind of aiming or view system in place so you'll have to get used to it :p
CPressland
I can handle both no problem! but now i've played Quake 4 on the 360 i find it much easier on the console then on the PC! PDZ controls where never that good! at level 7 i usualy get used to them!
Shadrack
practice practice practice. You see...all your precision is in your wrist and arm. Your thumb isn't doing any work on the PC. Now on a gamepad your thumbs are doing ALL of the work. You need to gain precision in muscles that are currently weak, and that takes practice, practice and more practice. I've gotten decent enough at the gamepad to play through single player FPS games. I still get raped in deathmatches so I know I have lots of room for improvement. I'm still much better with keyboard and mouse then I am with a gamepad, but enjoy FPS and 3rd person shooters (GoW) on the 360. I like being able to kick back and relax in an easy chair as I play my games as oppose to being hunched over a keyboard and mouse. I had previously stated that it would be cool if they released a keyboard and mouse for the 360. Now I'm thinking that it may suck because in order to compete in any deathmatch you would have to get the keyboard and mouse and we are back to being hunched over the controls while we play our games. sigh... Who knows..may the Wii will revolutionize FPS for consoles. We'll see. -shad
magik
PDZ is a horrible console FPS. Do yourself a favor and don't go by that as an example.
SyNiSteR
do you guys play fps in xbox or any other console is just as good as when you are playing with the mouse and keyboard? I am definately not as good on the 360 as I am on the PC. It's hard to compare because the "snap" reflex shots that you can make with a mouse aren't as easy to pull off with a controller. The hardest thing for me to learn was not keep my thumbs steady when playing. I used to have a really bad tendancy to get jumpy and just slam the joystick from side to side. Over time I learned to be able to keep it steady and only move the joystick slightly which really helped accuracy. I guess that my best advice would be to concentrate on keeping your movement and aiming as smooth as possible. PDZ is a horrible console FPS. Do yourself a favor and don't go by that as an example. QFT I have Gears of War (technically not FPS, I know) and Rainbow Six: Las Vegas. Both are outstanding games that play very well with a controller. acies
I never had a problem with FPS on console, though grow up with both console and PC. I know people who would stuggle with mouse and keyboard, but have no problem with controllers. I guess you really need to get used to it. But Perfect Dark is an awful game, so don't use that as example. you just need more practice.
Shetland
get halo2.
spike232
Too bad they couldn't make a specialised fps controller like the Dual Strike for the 360, on the pc the dual strike was pretty close to giving the same precision as a mouse.
magik
get halo2. True. Halo 2 is definitely the best example of a console FPS today because of how well the controls work in the game thanks to "sticky targets". It pretty much is the standard. neoadorable
aleni, like most ppl here said you get used to it, but it'll never have the fidelity of keys/mouse, unless controller technology improves. still, most FPS titles are playable on consoles now, and it shouldn't be a problem. i can't really tell a difference between COD3 (360) and COD2 (PC) in terms of speed/responses. aleni
well, about perfect dark zero being an awful game, that freshes me up a bit. im gonna buy r6 vegas and halo 2 then and try to practice. thanks for the replies. well i never have any problems playing 3rd person like hitman, double agent, and just cause. and i have ordered GoW after reading the hype and good reviews on it. everybody seems to love this GoW. it will arrive today. w00t! great time to spend on weekends. neoadorable
actually aiming in GOW is just like in an FPS, and not entirely accurate. you end up spending lots of ammo. it isn't that aiming can't be achieved, you just have to focus on it more. DarkGashX
I play FPS on PC right now as on Consoles (Xbox 1) I find it tough to get a good aim FAST! I hope I'm going to improve with my 360 and GoW when I get mine soon. I got Halo 2 now and love to glitch on it :)
da.pwns
I've owned damn near every console from the 1985/86 Nintendo on up, NeoGeo excluded. PC wins hands down as far as "control" when it comes to interfacing with the game itself. Talking, playing, shooting...whatever. The console controller is limited in functionality. And in NO way can ANYONES thumb ever be as accurate as an experienced player's 5 fingers and wrist with a precision mouse, EVER. Nuff said. Shadrack
w00h000! gears of wars and viva pinata have arrived. cant wait to play it after my work done. I've heard a lot about this Viva Pinata game and might go pick it up this evening. Sounds interesting. GoW is awesome. I love that game. There are a few parts where you role your eyes and say "Whatever, Epic..." but other then that the gameplay is tight. A lot of people are complaining that the game is too short, but I don't think it is. It is just the right length for you to enjoy the gameplay it presents without being sick of it by the time you kill the end boss. It leaves you wanting more, and then you play the game on Hardcore and then Insain and you get more. It is just the right length for a buddy to come over and play w/ me on split screen and have the game beat in about 5 hours. I bet you can do it in 2-3 hours if you are both good. But now i've drifted too far off of the topic. -shad
