PS3 nearly cracked?

Recommended Posts

This isnt a huge Blow, Who the hell is going to download a 20gb + file online to burn it for 2 hours to play on the ps2..

Did you even read the post?

This isnt about downloading and burning games, its about dumping games to the HDD, you could easily go rent a few games, dump them to the HDD and play all you want.

If you think a lot of PS3 games are going to be over 5-9 GB you are fooling yourself.

This will only be games fomr Sony and their closest companies who are told to not compress content on their disks so it looks like it takes up more space than it really does.

Anyway, For Sony this is a big blow if they'r eable to play copied games. For the foreseeable future, only the enthusiasts will be able to get a PS3, the enthusiasts are the ones who do hack their consoles to play piate games ebcause they want to try them al, and they'd rather not pay for them. resulting in a huge loss for sony. heck do you realize how many gmaes each console owner needs to buy, even if they're all first party, for sony to make a console on that console...

and yeah, production costs will drop over time, but we're talking a year here, at best 10 months or so for the costs to go down. and even then they won't drop 200 dollars, probably not even 100. butlets' assume production costs drop 100 dollars after some 10 months. they're still loosing 100. Now if we're really generous and asusme a 10 dollar profit on every game sold for sony, each console owner needs to still buy 10 games to get the console to not loose money.

Anyone with broadband.

even if you only have slow 2-4 Mb broadband, it'll be down in a relatively short time.

Being able to dump games in the HDD doesn't mean that you can play them.

Well it is a huge blow, consoles usually arent cracked for at least a year into its life. Sony make money on software sales, if this thing is cracked then they will lose a crapload of money on top of the $200 on every PS3 sold.

Glad you find what i say funny, you call it funny, i call it denial.

$200? More like $307 for the 60GB Version and $318 for the 20GB Version system.

Sony may have screwed themselves in the console game. I personally feel they banked too much on their name recognition. Then they released a buggy product. I'll get one when they iron out all the bugs.

You arent a well connected and respected cracking/modding team who cracked xbox and xbox 360 are you. I tend to believe them.

they didnt crack the 360

it was done by the specialist

and from there it went on to 2 people who got it working for each drive...

they didn't crack the xbox either

.........................

they made good tools for home users to do it, xecuter was responsible for a good bios replacement and added features to the original/ cracked bios

and you don't think sony knows about this ahead of PS3 release.. why hasn't Microsoft done anything? easy piracy pushes people to buy the system, copied games or not you still talk and word of mouth makes others want, xbox live hasn't cracked down because copies data matches the original disc meaning you cant modify cars to go faster or extra ammo. that would ruin the LIVE service, which is why they banned the original xbox because you can run and modify the content of the game, you do that with the 360 its break the signature... broke signature no boot with the firmware hack which is why the hammer hasn't come down yet,

feel me

Ridiculous. If days after the 360 release you could add over 700 gigs of storage to your console and shortly after that play backups the same people here defending this would be on Microsoft's ass. Theres no way you can spin it that this is somehow good for Sony and not an issue.

It's good for the consumer. Who cares about sony?

I don't see this as a blow to Sony, I see this as a step that will drive console sales per the "1337h4x0r3" community that wants to play homebrew. The average user sales wouldn't falter in the least because of this, so this is like a maximum of what? 5 title copies per base unit with the drive of higher unit sales? so like really 2-3 title copies, so you loose $120 to make the -$200 something more like -$100 something? That's really good marketing move to drive loss down by that much on 1st year of sales. Wait for next year to see how Sony is really doing

The PS3 has been very homebrew friendly from the start and this is totally unnecessary for that. All this is about is pirating and by the looks of it it wont take someone very tech savvy to do it.

I just played a PS3 (Motostorm) and I wasn't impressed at all. It didn't look that much better than PS2 games such as God of War and FFVII. Certainly not as good as the newer 360 games. I dunno, it just seems Sony messed up in every possible way with this console and now it looks like people will be able to get games for free soon.

Another point, it's not like EVERYONE is gonna be like "zomfg lets stick big hdd in the PS3 and make it run teh game images off it!" coz think about the audience. Sure, a load of us would do it, but what about people that don't know anything about that? And little kids? So it probably won't be bad.

if i can copy games and play the copies online with ps2 im sure itr wont be far away.

Indeed, there is no central service, Sony dont run the servers and cant ban consoles from playing online. Its all peer to peer.

they can't ban a console, but they can make it so you cannot play backed up games online.

With the PS2 and PSP, if your playing online, the game will make a DNAS check to make sure the game is running from an original disk etc, and if your playing it from the HDD, the check will fail.

How is a cracked console good for the ocnsumer. it isn't.

Homebrew.

My chipped xbox makes a great media and emulation center :D

If it was just a standad xbox it would be sat there gathering dust, but it gets used almost every day even though i have a 360 too.

Well it is about the company behind it

No, it's not. It's the console. Look, nobody outside the sadasses who follow this stupid console war actually care about company ethics. They care about the games they're gonna play. Despite being the less informed, they're the smarter ones here.

Yes. It is.

Thats why everyone thinks Xbox is crap, because it has big bad Microsoft behind it with its "rubbish" operating systems.
