I have a question about the HD-DVD drive.. i see people on ebay offering a bonus remote + kingkong. does this come with the HD-DVD drive if i purchased this in stores now, or was this a limited time offer thing?

Umm if you buy it in stores today it has the remote and king kong. I haven't heard anything that indicated it was a limited time offer, but that's possible.

It certainly isn't limited to ebay'ers.

those are going for $300+ CDN.. in bestbuy, it's only $199.99, thats why i thought it was a limited supply.. and bestbuy.ca doesn't mention anything about a bundle.

i may pick one up.. i haven't seen any good movies that are keepers out yet

It's not a "Bundle" exactly - those are just the contents of the standard HD-DVD unit.

According to that page the King Kong pack-in is for a "limited time" - but any unit you find today will have it.

I picked mine up earlier this week, along with Superman, Syriana, and another movie. So far all I've watched was King Kong - compared to an upscaled DVD (using VGA on my 720p Samsung DLP) it wasn't exactly a revelation in quality, but only because the upscaled DVDs on the 360 already looked so damn good. I'll have to do some comparisons going between DVD and HD-DVD. I think the biggest difference doesn't even come from the resolution increase, but rather from the better codec (VC-1) with a much higher bit-rate. Definitely no signs of blocking or other common MPEG-2 artifacts seen on regular DVDs.

For me, if I didn't have this option, HD-DVD and BluRay wouldn't have been worth the price. But at only $200 with a decent movie included, it made a reasonable addition to my home theater setup.
