360 overheating?

Recommended Posts

After like 2-3 hours of continous play the games start to load slower like maps and stuff. and my fans are pretty loud. Can everyone else hear there fans while playing?

could this be a overheating issue?

mine sounds like a plane is ready to take off while it boots up.. you'll know when it overheats, the red ring of light will appear..

I heard there is only 1200 consoles with problems out of 7,500,000+ sold. Is this correct? If so I'm taking the plunge.

Honestly that sounds a little low to me, but even not knowing the real number, I will say this...

Me and 4 of my friends got it 360's at launch, meaning last year... One of us had issues, and he would hate for me to say it, but I actually believe the issues were of his doing. He had absolutely no ventilation at all, and actually had it surrounded and on top of a ton of other components. The rest of us have had no problems at all.

Also keep in mind, you never read threads with the title "No Problems With My 360." where the started goes on to say "I have owned a 360 for a year and never had an issue. Just thought I would let everyone know."

My point is people that have had no issues are never going to speak up about it publicly. So the majority of the threads you will read about problems will always be negative ones.

In reply to the actual topic, sounds like it might be a cache issue??

Mine will be on top of my desk next to my monitor so I hope mines okay. Still and a little worried if waste money on it or not.

Sounds like it will be fine to me. (Y)

I hear you about the money, I truly do as it is a lot to spend, but I was a HUGE PC Gamer, and I have barely touched my PC for gaming in the past 6 months. I never, ever thought that would happen, I truly did not.

Since that happened, and I never thought it would, I can say I feel it is definitely worth it.

It really is up to you though, no doubt about it.

Only get it if you feel 110% sure about it. Not just 100% but 110% sure.

That is the best advice I can give you.

Atm I'm a MASSIVE PC Gamer also, I want to move back to console gaming because I am not forking out ?4000+ for a DX10 PC, Yes I know you don't really need one right now but what's the point in paying for a NEW Top end DX9 Card when I would need DX10 eventually?

So I'm going to the 360 as the graphics are awesome, the dashboard is the best of the next gen consoles, and it's Live service is well established compared to other consoles.

Most places give you a 30-day money back gaurantee, although not on software, you could buy the 360 and rent a few games.

I'm pretty sure you will not return it though :D. I Have also pretty much completely stopped playing games on my PC. I only have time for one gaming area, and that is the xbox 360.

(and maybe soon a nintendo wii)

I plan to get the console from a retailer, so lets see what happens. :). This overheating business, I don't think it is actually "overheating on it's own" as such but maybe the ones having issues are having their consoles in such confined spaces. ALL Consoles in the manual do say not to block the air holes if I remember correctly, even my SNES said that.

Never had any problems with my 360. Actually, my Wii gets way more warm when it's turned on.

...

Anyway! I agree with DLarry. I have at least ten friends with 360s and none of us have ever had a problem. In fact, I haven't actually heard anyone complain themselves of a 360 overheating or failing at all, just of reporting on what someone else said.

I know how you feel :pinch:

I'd cancel my wii preorder and get a 360 if I thought they were more reliable

well i have had mine since launch with no issues, and it get hours of play every day. So i guess that would be pretty damn reliable

I'd say its a 1 in 6 failure rate, which is high. Anywho, they don't overheat. If it does, its defective.

What if you download arcade games and themes to a harddrive (which you got with a premium pack). Do you have to take the harddrive back to the store in the package if it goes wrong (i'm guessing you do). And if you do, how do you redownload the items you purchased with points onto the replacement?

Well, I've had mine since March, and I get more than occasional disc read error, plus a rather strange rendering delay when loading a level. I thought it was just a PGR3 issue, but not its appearing in GOW too. It'll render the map fine, but the smaller details will be missing (dirt on windows for example) and then I'll notice those pop in 2-3 seconds later.

As long as you use the same Xbox Live account, you can always re-download anything that you've paid for. If you're using a different 360 than when you first paid for the items you'll have to be signed on to Live to access those.

I'm surprised, knowing Microsoft I would of thought hey wouldn't allow it as someone could login on their friend's console and download the content for them not costing a penny. I'm guessing you have to be signed for the arcade game sbut what about theses ;).

BTW my opinion is that its the DVD-Rom that is so loud not the fans.

Hmm, maybe it isn't a good idea to have the 360 next to my monitor and speakers? How loud are we talking here? Anyone know in dB?

EDIT: altermind I believe it's 1 CPU with 3 cores. Still could get hot though.

I'd say so too. Even in GoW I noticed that sometimes textures are still being loaded in after the loading screen. This was after half a days use of the 360 and I was on the beserker level and noticed the walls textures slowly comming in from low res to the high res versions. I duno, perhaps certain games need a bit of time if theyve been going for a while.

and I agree its the dvd thats loud not the fans. Even then i wouldnt notice while playing at a half normal audio level.

I don't think you can use any paid content on another console if you're not logged in, but I know for a fact that's the case with arcade games. Sometimes I don't feel like logging in to let somebody try some of the Arcade games I bought with my first 360, but it's completely understandable. It just screws with my "Last Played Games" list (I know it's petty ;)).

I got a ring of red lights, crapped my pants, then realized i forgot to plug in the video cable to the system

I think we've all done that at least once.
