Got a 360! Some specific varied questions...

Recommended Posts

hey guys well this weekend i got the 360 with gears of war, PGR3 and Spilinter cell. All i can say is omg man its an amazing system. Im not much of a console gamer used to play on the PC quite a bit until now my once sexy 9800pro got too old for newer games and i thought hmm might aswell get an xbox since its gonna cost me loads upgrading to a decent system.

Anyway here are some questions :

1 how long does the battery last for on the wireless cnotroller? I might get a recharge kit.

2 I have my xbox set up horizontally, I heard about disk scratching etc or something and i went to the horizontal position. its about 1/2 foot away from the power supply and connected to a surge protected power supply which also has speakers and like a vga converter which i hook my speakers upto. Is there anything wrong with this setup? I have heard about 360s breaking alot due to miscare and stuff...

3. How the hell does the rating thing work for PGR3! lol it says like league 77 position 200 what does that mean? how many leagues are there and how many positions can you go upto?

4. What are the best cars to get in PGR because i love live and how you can race with different players!

5. Any other recommended games? I like FPS i think im going to get GRAW and HALO 2 never played them also racing games are cool.

6 anyone know when Fight night round 4 is coming out? would it be soon? if not i might aswell get the recent one.

Anyway thanks guys! hey i have no friends on live so if you want add a fellow neowinian! gamertag = Syphern

Peace Guys

It's supposed to be about 24 hours or so...I've never counted, but it's quite a while.

If you change from horizontal to vertical while a disc is in the drive and running, yes you will scratch the disc, otherwise you've nothing to worry about with your setup.

I'm not into GRAW, but it's supposed to be pretty excellent. Halo 2 is pretty much a must have for quite a lot of people, including myself. Also, though it's not an FPS, I would look into Gears of War - it's an excellent game.

I don't know anything about PGR or Fight Night, but I'm sure others here do.

I get about 2 days with normal use of the controller but then again I guess if you spend 24/7 hitting buttons it will need a charge quicker.

Get the play and charge kit, well worth it IMHO.

Nah mines been Vert for about 8months and now lays down flat on a shelf under the TV - never had an issue with it wrecking a DVD or GAME disk. Only the overheating if left on a carpet was anything I ever heard about 360's and there placement.

PGR rocks - but the car is your choice - many handle in various ways and you want one to suit the race and the track.

Anything over $80000 seems to do the trick thou! :D

The rest I ain't sure about but I used to PC game all the time, now I just use my 360 ...

1) Id say 20hours or so - not sure tho, its not that long so investing in a recharge kit is a good idea imo.

2) I hear weird noises sometimes from the disk spinning..

3) I dont have the game

4) Same

5) Screw GRAW :p It was a big disappointment imo. I expected alot more from it..

I _highly_ recommend you try Rainbow Six Vegas if youre into FPS'

and Splinter Cell Double Agent if youre into sneaking..

Test Drive is also worth taking a look at (Racing)

And dont forget DEAD RISING - its alot of fun :D

The official time from Microsoft on the wireless controller is upto 40 hours. Some people has said to me though that they never get the full 40 hours out of it. I think it is based on your distance.

Im 1meter from my xbox - If its based on distance - 40hours must be when you 1milimeter from the x360 :s

It says upto 40 Hours from upto 30 Feet away.

I would estimate battery life at around 20-24 hours depending on what type of battery you're using. I have never got the controller to last the listed 40hours. I suggest getting the Play and Charge Kit. It is definitely worth the 20 bucks IMO. Also, when the controller is connected, hit the Xbox-Live button and in the top corner of the blade that pops up, you'll see a battery life indicator. It should help you guess how long the batteries are lasting.

Like Stifler said, only when rotating the console while a game/DVD is running will you scratch a disk. Also remember not to use your console at an odd angle. i.e.-have it laying completely horizontal or completely vertical.

5. Any other recommended games? I like FPS i think im going to get GRAW and HALO 2 never played them also racing games are cool.

GRAW is fantastic, but you have to remember that it is a tactical shooter. This means that it is deliberately slower paced then something like Halo or FEAR. So, I suggest renting it first to see if you like it. If you like GRAW, I would also suggest Rainbow Six Vegas.

6 anyone know when Fight night round 4 is coming out? would it be soon? if not i might aswell get the recent one.

I haven't heard anything about Round 4. I think you're better off getting Round 3 for now, because if there is going to be a Round 4 (which I would think there would be), it won't be out for a long while.

I prefer the quick charge "dock" thingy to the play-and-charge myself. I never really use my play-and-charge cables.

Also, battery life depends a lot on which batteries you use (double As, versus rechargeable - and there are two models of rechargeable depending on whether you buy them standalone or in one of the charger packs).

I also heard that having your 360 in a serge protecter was bad for it, I've been told it's best to give it it's own wall socket, picky thing!

of course, why do you think it has is own bar, it's like a capacitor and protection.

1 how long does the battery last for on the wireless cnotroller? I might get a recharge kit.

I bought a 360 on Friday a little over a week ago (Nov. 24th), and the batteries died last Saturday, giving me barely a week of use. Granted, it was a week of heavy use. Still, I definitely plan on getting a recharge kit, as pumping batteries into it every couple weeks is going to get expensive.

I've had no problems using vertically or horizontally for extended periods of time. Just don't move it while it's on.

Halo 2 definately if you've never played. GRAW is quite good, but as someone already pointed out, much slower paced. Get it if you're into that sort of thing. FEAR and Rainbox Six Vegas have gotten good reviews; however I have never played either so I can't vouch for them personally.

as everyone said, get the recharge kit, environmentally friendly, saves you money and grants peace of mind.

my 360 is vertical: makes sense to position it like that, i think.

extra games: I recommend DOAX2 for some pleasant distraction or the bouncy variety, and RS:Vegas for the action contingent. Look up Project Sylpheed if you're craving an old-school shooter. it's well cut that one!

you already got GOW, and i must say you should steer clear of COD3, it's quite ho-hum.

Scratched discs is from moving it from horizontal <-> vertical while the disc is in the tray and/or spinning. Having it Horizontal or Vertical does not cause your discs to get scratched as the 360 was designed to be able to be placed in both positions.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a surge protector. Virtually all of my electronics are connected to one, when there's a power surge you'll be sorry your stuff wasn't connected to one. :p

Very True! You should never move ANY electrical equipment with a disk in the drive/spinning. For one I never leave a disk in my PC or move my PC when it is accessing a disk.

Although, there is a way that MS could stop it from happening if somebody "accidentally" knocks down their console and that is using the rubber pad method. I was hoping by now MS would of used that method. But I have been told they haven't...yet!?

Some say surge protectors and 4 way socket adaptors are bad, some say it is good... :s

For surge protectors it depends on the quality. I know any surge protectors from Monster are very high quality, but they do cost quite a bit.

But definitely stay away from any generic cheap surge protector. Make sure you get one that includes a warranty that protects against it's failure and damage to electrical devices. Then at least you'll be compensated incase it doesn't work.

Hmmm, cheap scheme if my xbox breaks down ayyyy....

My 4 way socket adaptors not an expensive high quality one as far as I know so I guess I'll just give it it's own socket, is it okay to use an extension cable ?

I've heard that extension cords aren't recommended either, but I'm sure that's way better than using a simple 4-way adapter. I've seen surge protectors with a $10,000 warranty selling for $20-30.

You could also consider a UPS that's typically used for PC's. Most of them are good (from what I've read) for power conditioning and the like, and I have never seen one without at least a 5-digit warranty. You also won't need to worry about messing up your HDD during a power outage.
