[Guide] Firefox: Lost your bookmarks?

Written by: DarkGashX.

It may occur to every Firefox user once or twice but there is a way to fix it. If your system restarts itself or for some reason your Bookmarks have gone walkies, then you can try the following to see if you get a result. Tested on Firefox 2.0 using Windows Vista and Windows XP.

Note: Before we start, I advise you take a note of any bookmarks you have made today, or since your Bookmarks went walkies.

1. Close Firefox 2

2. Goto Start -> Run

3. Type %AppData%

4. Go into the folder "Mozilla"

5. Go into the folder "Firefox"

6. Go into the folder "Profiles" and select your profile, usually a random string followed by .default (e.g. abcdefgh.default).

7. Go into the folder "bookmarkbackups". You will see a list of files named bookmarks-20XX-XX-XX. Where X is a number that forms a date.

8. Select the one with the most realist filesize:

9. Copy the file.

10. Return to your profile folder (e.g. abcdefgh.default).

11. Find a file named bookmarks (bookmarks.html) and delete it, and paste the file you copied.

12. Rename the pasted file to bookmarks (bookmarks.html).

13. Close the Window.

14. Start Firefox and your bookmarks should have found their way home.

Hope this worked for you! :). If it did, please leave a comment.

This is good way to get it back but for newbies this is an easier way i think plus you install this extension on your other computers or when your not home and you get your bookmarks on the go it backups up your bookmarks to there server regularly or you can choose and FTP of your choice.

Yeah, I had a problem with my Bookmarks and all my Firefox settings disappearing. The files were still there but they would not load. After backing up all my user files i experimented with them and found a bad extension. Once I removed it everything worked again.
