Xbox 360/Next Gen HD Game Prices

Recommended Posts

I am just curious why compared to the previous generation games (?29.99), games for the 360/NextGen HD Consoles are now ?39.99 - ?49.99? PC Games are only ?25 - ?35 (?50 for collector/limited editions). Is there any reported reason?

Well it does cost a lot more to make these games.

I mean the same game on the pc would be less and look just as good as a 360 version. I just don't get it.

Because they can charge that much more for it and just about the same amount of people will buy the game. Pretty much basic marketing.

what stifler said. there's no technical reason: as you noted, 360/PS3 titles are basically PC games, but still cost more. it's a price point the market can tolerate, so they go with it. in a couple of years it'll go down for "lesser" releases.

and before someone says that consoles have a centralized licensing process that costs money, so did the PS2, Xbox et al but they nonetheless didn't cost more than PC games, hence i doubt that where the extra ten bucks come from.

it's market forces, that's all.

thats normal , i mean rhey have invested a lot into reasearch and development of their new disc formats like hddvd and blu ray so they are gonna charge extra for those things as well so thats wht these console makers do they sell the console at loss first and then make money off games and other services.

360 only has DVD though, so that (I don't think) doesn't apply to it.

Good point, but if we compare PC to the 360 as I said it's about the same and a lower price. I don't mind the price just wondered why it is more money. Still, the Xbox Live service is top notch. :).

Yeah... I think it was basically EA that started that trend. If you looked (at least in the US), the original first-party Xbox 360 games (and some third-party non-EA titles) were the same price as last-gen.
