Xbox 360 Sales May Exceed Microsoft's 10M Forecast

By: C?sar A. Berardini - "Cesar"

Dec. 6th, 2006 5:35 am>

Peter Moore said in an interview with Bloomberg that sales of the Xbox 360 video game system may exceed the company's forecast to sell 10 million units by the end of the year. When asked if Microsoft is likely to beat its forecast, Moore replied: "Yes. All indications are that we came off a very strong Thanksgiving holiday.''

"They key is we're in stock, we're available, we're delivering well to retail,'' Moore explained. "Certainly the consumer is recognizing the fact that we have a great price point as well as 160 games available and that flies in the face of our competition."

Moore declined to provide a new forecast.

I would take this with a grain of salt. Would prefer a forecast from an independent source rather than Moore's mouth.

Does it matter? They are payed to say what and where :p

Oh, totally. So Microsoft just got to Merrill-Lynch before Sony? Obviously if something has something good to say, they're paid off. This goes for both sides.

But really I would think so too since, PS3 is nowhere to be found and comparing Wii vs. 360 of course 360 win. I was planning to buy ps3 but I couldn?t find for anywhere around 600 miles I live. I just see stocks and stocks of 360 and not even 1 Wii or ps3, even the demo workstation were having a problem while Wii didn?t had any control and ps3 kept freezing (this is 4 day old circuit city I was talking about.)

i havent seen any playable demo stands in retail stores like BB,CC, walmart or target... but at stores like EB Games or Gamestop you can pick up the controller from the guy at the register... here in NJ they ask to hold your DL

?

I know the company doing the selling would be biased, but they are also the most reliable when it comes to tracking numbers for the console they created, I think.

This is like the GM of a football team announcing they are going to win 15 seconds after kick-off.

I'm not saying the 360 won't sell 30mil units but talk about putting the carriage before the horse.

this just in.. XBOX 360 production stopped after selling 9,999,999 units

Funny but no, they have just shipped the 10 millionth console so I reckon the 360 could easily get 10 million by end of December

i always said that i would get a 360 (or at least have an immense desire to get one) when the first price drop came around..

i hope that time is near, although i doubt it since the 360 is cheaper than the PS3..

I dont know why is it so hard for some people to believe this news. MS has a pretty big inventory and considering all the bugs on the new higher priced PS3 I think they'll sell the 360 like mad for the holiday. Its a great console, and considering they had a year to fix some of the bugs, it will be an excelent out of the box experience.

I agree [see sig]. And like said before, they've already shipped the 10 millionth console, and the 360 is in perfect condition for the upcoming holiday season.

Where did you get that 8.1 number? from the nexgenwars site? You realize those are guesses... right?

Yes, well, until MS gives us actual numbers, we don't have anything better to go off of...

Supposedly some NPD estimates for November will be out tomorrow, which will be a lot more accurate than that random counter site I'd think.

Nah, Spardan_X (the MS insider) said they kept the 10th millionth(?) X360 to themselves - to celebrate it and worship it..
