Roger H. Veteran Posted December 8, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2006 I finally got bought Contra after playing it and loving it.... after finally getting a code (stupid thing came off when i scratced it!!! - but that's another story) i played it a couple times and even over xbox live (co-op was sweet!!!!). The issue i'm having now is i have a Sony 57" HDTV and all of a sudden the contra screen in the middle is super small. TV is 16 x 9 and i'd say that screen is 2 x 7 (in relation to the TV) before it was maybe 8 x 7 or something with fillers on the right and left of the main game screen since it wasn't designed for HD. I'm connected over component at 1080i but if i drop down to the 480p (widescreen) resolution it looks fine again. I've deleted the file and downloaded it again and still the same problem. All my other games play fine and even other arcade games are no problem, just Contra.... anyone else have that problem?
+StevoFC MVC Posted December 8, 2006 MVC Share Posted December 8, 2006 i have noticed if you change the resolution of the output on the 360 the arcade games that you can change the size of stay at the smaller size (look smaller). it must lock them into certain dimensions. just leave your set at 1080i and go into the game and change the size of the playable area. edit: if you can that is. I never looked to see if you can change the size like with SFII or Mortal Kombat.
Wolvereen
BTW, can anybody tell me WHERE you put in the infamous code to get 30 men? Any time you hit down on the menu screen, it moves to the next item...

But you have to hit B ridiculously fast or it exits to another menu.

Roger H. Veteran Posted December 11, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2006 (edited) well that's the normal size... imagine that even more narrow than it is now... i'll take a picture of it and edit this post..... hopefully my lil cellie camera will do the job good enough to get the idea. 1080i: Guy who's video is above (Normal - i don't know what reso he's using tho) Edited December 11, 2006 by SHoTTa35
neoadorable
not sure why this is happening...will check at home later. anyway, you're not missing out on much, Contra...well, not the greatest offering ever! get Galaga and Doom, tho, those versions rock. and btw MS confirmed they're having problems with people scratching off codes and stuff by accident. you can literally scrape most of the cards' coating (both sides) with a finger nail. not a good sign! Meshuggah
the reason this is happening (and the reason why i wont buy it) is because this is the arcade version of Contra, and not the 4:3 version that was on the NES. The small thing in the screen is the way the arcade game was, as it wasnt in 4:3. It sucks, it's stupid, and kept me from spending money on the game. NeoTrunks
Mine is not that small. I've played in 720p and it's not that thin... Have you tried manually stretching the image?
Roger H. Veteran Posted December 12, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted December 12, 2006 well if you look at the screenshot closer you can see that the background is fully stretched to match the 1080i resolution... it's just the "game screen" that's smaller than normal. It has nothing to do with the resolution of my screen as it works fine with all the arcade games, PacMan and all that works fine, just Contra. As i said earlier it was working great before and if i change the resolution back to 480p it plays fine again. Looks normal as the other screenshot does. And to Neo... it may not be the greatest but it's just nostalgic. :) I remember plunking down lots of money in those machines to keep on playing. It's great fun and co-op over live is even sweeter! neoadorable
yeah i know we have fond memories from the Predator days of 87, but dude this game really blows. i can't play it for more than ten minutes at a stretch. so don't fret over having a tiny screen. i have no idea why it's happening, maybe something corrupt in the download? i doubt it. must be a software glitch somewhere. can we delete and re-install for free somehow? Roger H. Veteran Posted December 12, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted December 12, 2006 you know what i got the fix from another guy... actually this is a "feature" LOL You start the game then hit Start then Options and then Screen Size... you can stretch it out of proportion or go back to defaults. I stretched it and it's looking good, just kinda filled my screen a lil more but kept the original aspect ratio. Thanks for all who helped... we can put this one to rest now... Contra achievements i'll have to get some more soon.
