magik
Planet Gears of War: What sort of things do you guys have in mind for downloadable content? Are there any plans to extend the single-player game as well as multiplayer? Cliff: Xbox Live is an umbilical crackpipe that an entire generation of gamers are rapidly becoming addicted to. The versus is where we plan on extending the fun of Gears online and thus any continuation of the single player experience remains to be seen. Mark: The first update we do will be some housekeeping to take care of a few things we need to adjust. We hope to have that in the pipeline before too long. Unfortunately the certification group at Microsoft shuts down relatively early in December so we’re racing against the clock to try to get it finished and certified for release through the Xbox Live update system. Judging by all the great Xbox360 games that have been released recently these folks deserve to have a great holiday season! Planet Gears of War: In terms of pure hardware horsepower, how much of the 360’s power does Gears use? Are we seeing the limits of what the console’s capable of? Cliff: The games that leverage the most of any console are always later in the cycle of the system’s life. This is the first Xbox 360 game that Epic Games has shipped. I somehow suspect that future Epic and Unreal Engine titles will be even more beautiful and compelling on the platform. Mark: I think we pushed the 360 as hard as we knew how to push it during the development of Gears but, even as principle tech development on Gears finished this fall, we’ve already identified areas of improvement and further optimization we can make on Xbox360 so, as Cliff points out, we’ll get better and better throughout the entire generation. We’ve now got the same kind of learning/development curve going on with UT on PlayStation3 as well. Planet Gears of War: There’s a 50-page bitchfest on the official forums about a bug causing squished aspect ratio on non-widescreen VGA monitors. Will this bug be addressed in an upcoming patch? Mark: Yes. It has already been fixed and we plan to ship it to users as part of that first housekeeping update I talked about earlier. We’re also fixing a few minor problems and making a few small changes and improvements. I don’t want to go into too many details because we have not finalized the update but once we know what made it in, and passed certification, we’ll put some news up on our forum which I’m sure will start other passionate threads about what we have/have not gotten around to so far. There is more to come for this game in the future. Source Via

Civilian
If you are playing an unranked multiplayer game and all 8 slots fill up you can hear everyone fine, if one player leaves and a new player joins to take their place you can not hear the new person. I have not seen this bug you are mentioning. I do know that a lot of people do not realize that in order to get proper voice chat functionality you must ensure that the proper ports on a NAT firewall are opened. In general, those ports do not have to be opened in order to join a game but they do need to be opened to host a game and to ensure proper voice chat functionality. There is a utility in the console OS to check your XBox Live link. Everyone should make sure that all of the tests are pass. I had problems hearing the voice chat and found that the NAT check was not passing successfully. Opening some ports (check out xbox live support for which ones..i'm not sure), or putting your xbox in the DMZ of your router, will solve the problem. Of corse, there are players all over the world right now that have not properly setup their xbox 360 to work on xbox live. There is more to come for this game in the future. I noticed that it seemed kinda squished the first few times I played. I hope they add some true 4:3 support, as it is ridiculous that it isn't currently supported with so many people using standard format monitors. Anyway, i'm on an old CRT monitor that lets me adjust out AR error. I wish LCDs had that feature because it really comes in handy. Instead LCD manufacturers assume that they can "auto set" and all AR problems will disappear... how naive. I can only think of 2 things that I wish they'd add to the game in a patch besides just bug fixes: 1. The ability to keep statistics in coop games. The score board "back button" should show how many deaths each player has had. It would also be nice to see who I'm playing with in case I forget what their alias is. 2. I would really like a FFA deathmatch mode. Team base stuff is stressful for new players. It is still stressful for me because I'm not very good. If you are new, and you kinda suck you have to put up with team mates talking **** to you and the opposing team talking **** to you. FFA matches would be good to better you skills without other people depending on your abilities to succeed in a match. More versus modes in general would be great. This is Epic we are talking about. Unreal Tournament has a TON of different gameplay modes that they invented. Lets get some of that into GoW if possible. -shad

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 11, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2006 (edited) I hope they fix these two bugs: Getting on top of a car in the map 'Gridlock', and flying through the air in the rain mansion map (forgot the name). I can easily do both glitches. Everytime I do it everyone says "WTF!" or "WTH!". I guess not that many people know about it. EDIT: I'm glad the 4:3 aspect ratio bug is fixed. I tried Gears of War on my 17" monitor the other night, and it looked really messed up. I tried resolutions ranging from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 and it still looked bad. Shadrack
lol, look at this glitch: http://useruploads.mythica.org/cgi-bin/wat...amp;sid=2028830 hah! Holy cow. How do you do that? It looks like you have to press the melee button as soon as you switch to the lancer... but i may be mistaken. I'll have to try that when I get home. -shad
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 11, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2006 That's one hell of a glitch. I'm going to try it as soon as I have time.
magik
Here's how you do that glitch I linked to earlier: If you are HOST, press and release "B" and then "X" quickly while standing over a lancer that is on the ground. If you are NOT host, press and hold "B" and quickly press and release "X". It is easier for the HOST to do this glitch. The method for the HOST is pretty much the same as the Invisible Weapon glitch. That is why if you're not the HOST holding "B" rather than letting it go prevents the lancer from becoming invisible so that you can chainsaw yourself. When the HOST does this glitch, the chainsaw noise will continue on for a little while even after the lancer and all the blood has stopped. Once in campaign, I was able make the "REV'ing Chainsaw" noise by pressing "RT" using any of my weapons after having chainsaw'd myself. This doesn't appear on other people's screens if the HOST is doing this glitch. GoWForumThere's a lot more glitches on that site. http://gearsofwarforum.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=
