Any near by computer monitors? I'm sure you can find a large CRT for cheap in the local user posted ads. So there is a poor mans option to some quality gaming.

If you want a sleek LCD, I've done some research.

Here is what I've found:

19" LCDs typically run under $300 (I think I've seen them as low as $220). Any larger then that it becomes $800-$1200+ very quickly.

I've been very pleased with what I've seen from DELL and Samsung lately. Samsung is generally cheaper then DELL though. But I really have liked the LCD monitors from those two manufactures lately.

yes you get get samsung 19ins HDTV's for around ?230... failing that I believe you can use your existing CRT monitor(if you have that) but don't quote me on that.

But yes, you do need a high def something:pp Pretty much everygame I played on a 26ins SDTV looks terrible(At least the fonts do anyway)

How about a 17 inch CRT moniter, how do you connect one of those to a 360?

Also I was thinking, when i get it I'll have it set up with the TV/DVD combi, I would play any DVD's on the tele to reduce the ammount of work the 360 has to do, do you reckon playing DVD's on the 360 really gives it that much more work (wear - I don't want it to break!)

Just get the Microsoft Xbox 360 VGA Cable. It'll hook right into your PC Monitor and will give you hi-def resolutions. :)

VGA on a 360 is supposed to be the best quality at the moment. But it differs from TV/Monitor to TV/Monitor. I know my monitor does 1080p via DVI & VGA but for some reason 1080p over component wont :(. Might be a 360 bug who knows.

If you have a separate DVD player, then use that instead of the 360.

I've been using my 360 as a DVD player and I'm not too worried about it. It has really great movie player capabilities and handles scratches on discs very gracefully (i.e., moving on from it instead of choking up and crashing like cheap dvd players do).

The real wear and tear for the drive on your 360 comes from dust. Dust is the enemy of the mechanical and optical components of that optical drive. Check movie and game discs before putting them in. Keep the area as dust free as possible, and occasionally blow the optical drive out with a can of air. If you do that you will most likely have a working system for at least 3 or 4 years.

I'd be surprised if any 360 didn't start showing problems after 4 years of use no matter how well you take care of it. That seems to be the life of most optical drives these days.
