betaxajx
I posted this a few months ago, but didn't get much help, and it's partially my fault for not doing too much explaining. Here's the situation. A couple of months ago Live randomly stopped working, and I could never figure of what the problem was. I played with settings over and over again, with no luck. I'm no beginner with computers, been it's been annoying me so much that I'm probably missing some stupid thing I just keep forgetting about, so maybe someone else will no what's going wrong. Here's as detailed as I can get with my setup: Computer 1 (This One): - Connected to Modem & Linksys WRT54G Router Computer 2 (basement): - Connects to network through Linksys Wireless Adapter - Connects to Xbox with Crossover Cable - ICS enabled - TCP/IP setting currently on "Automatic" detection for both IP and DNS settings XBOX - Currently on "Automatic" for all various network connection settings. If someone could walk me through setup, it'd be greatly appreciated. This has been driving me crazy!
sweetham
Tell me if I understand this correctly. Your first computer is connected to the modem on one NIC, and connected to your router on another NIC. Thats the way it sounds. And if so why? You running a more advanced firewall or something? Seems overkill for a home network.
betaxajx
No. The modem is connected to the router, which is connected to the upstairs computer.
sweetham
ok, just making sure I understand you correcty. I see you have ICS setup. Did you set it up on the NIC or did you use the Network connection wizard?
ToneKnee
The live drop outs could be due with the Wireless network. Try checking your wireless channels to see if you get a channel with less interference.
betaxajx
ICS is setup on the ethernet card itself...
sweetham
You might try setting up the ICS through the network connection wizard(NCW). I have had some trouble getting XBL to work with ICS, and the only way it would work was setting it up through the NCW.
sweetham
I also forgot to mention that you might try using a crossover cable from the xbox to the computer. I remember when I had mine connected it was with a crossover. My ultimate suggestion would be if you can spare the cash spring for a wireless adapter for the xbox. ICS bogs XBL down way too much in my opinion. If not I guess keep trying different things and let us know the results and we can go from there. PsyOpWarlord
I'd suggest ditching the connection of the XBox to your computer. Get the XBox its own wireless adapter. I used to use ICS and it was nothing but problems when connecting a console. Got the console its own connection and its been great since.
Chad.C
I have the same setup as you minus the hardware, but this is how mine is setup and is working great.. Family Computer >> Connected to my wireless modem/router via ethernet cable. My Computer >> Connected to my wireless modem/router via a wireless nic card. >> Xbox connected to my computers motherboard built-in nic, using the cable that came with my xbox. >> ICS setup so the Xbox gets its connection from the computer. I set my router with DCHP on. All computers are getting their IP addresses from my router. Not sure why your setup isn't working because its basically the same as mine.
