Stakken
Oh my god this week has been HORRIBLE for me. In the past week ALONE I have been typing something several paragraphs in length in Firefox only to accidentally hit the goddamn "Cancel" button, or in today's case the stupid place I was typing the message on shut down and I pressed "Submit" and it said "our site is undergoing maintenance!" so I hit the back button and it kept saying that and there was no way I could get it back! WHY do I have such bad goddamned luck? This is so fricken stupid! Every time I am about to post something HUGE online (like several thousand characters) through Firefox I lose it all and I cannot get it back. YET whenever it's something short or something I don't give a **** about, it always makes it through perfectly! Why does this happen!? I have lost so much stuff I've typed up in my browser this week alone that it has ruined me mentally. It has made me very depressed, and it's even changed my faith (or lack thereof) into an athiest now. That's how ****ed off it's getting me. It's not like I go onto my computer, go into Firefox, type up like FIVE PAGES of crap, and then WANT to lose it all. Hell no! But that's basically what has happened every time I post something big. It is ridiculous. People tell me "type it in Notepad instead of the browser". Well I've tried that, and it's not something I'm used to doing so I forget about it, not only that but it's so inconvenient. I mean if we WEREN'T meant to type in browsers, we'd all be typing in Notepad and uploading the .txts onto forums. So don't tell me "oh just type in Notepad" because it's way easier said than done. With that said, is there any way I can somehow get all of the stuff I typed up like 20 minutes ago on a forum that I lost because after I hit submit it gave me a big fat "site maintenance" thing, including when I hit the back button? I mean I had TONS of stuff typed and lost it all in a second. Is there ANY way I can get it back?

imachip
Hmm not sure.. I guess there must be a program like a keylogger you could install (not a trojan/virus!), that would save to a file as you typed?
trashpickinman
Although you already answered your first problem, (though you don't want admit to it), if available try switching to an offline mode in your browser, then browse back through the history to the page you were working on, data MIGHT be there. Sometimes that works for me. But when I need to type anything long or even slightly important I fire up Word type then save, or just select then copy whatever I'm typing in the browser. clonk
If you weren't so busy getting depressed, over-reacting and ranting you could have spent the 3 minutes I did and found these extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1046/, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1490/
PermaSt0ne
happens to me all the time as well i was typing up a really long e-mail to my family about cordinating christmas events and by the time i hit the submit button my cookie for my e-mail expired so i brought me to the login page but this has happend to me so many times that i automatically hit ctrl-a and then ctrl-c before i press any submit button. even for posts in neowin are coppied there's not much you can do but copy it before you submit  @clonk: those don't help. he wants something that auto-saves before he submits. otherwise he can just hit ctrl-a then ctrl-c

halcyoncmdr
Those extensions should work, but this is one of those things that I just thought should be a basic feature that was included in browsers. This is just one of the reason why I switched to Opera, but hopefully the extension should work for you. :D Good Luck!
