Thoughts on CoD3?

Recommended Posts

Personally I think its bloody aweful. :\

Started playing on hardest... couldn't move more than a few metres without dying, trying now on the second hardest level (which was quite doable in CoD2), and I'm finding,

-lack of Checkpoints, particular during challenging parts that can take quite a few minutes of pure luck to get passed

-the AI seems to have gotten 'stupider' since CoD2 - your allies run straight past enemy germans

-field of view blur is just crazy. :\

-Every time you load a saved game, you have to watch the intro movie again. (really I need to watch the outro movie for the mission I just finished + the level I'm already half way through)

-Can't seem to find a single game on Xbox Live. :s

I dunno, maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but personally this really is disappointing, espiceally from Treyarch, I expected them to do a better job than IW. :(

i have the same problems as you - i just went straight back to CoD2, i'll most probably try to complete CoD3 soon though - when the AI do something stupid and you can't trigger the cutscene/checkpoint is REALLY annoying.

In all honesty, Treyarch isn't actually one of the best developers to begin with. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high on a game they developed. The spider-man series of games is a perfect example. Lots of good aspects, but horrible implementation on some, and bugs that make it more frustrating than it should be. Hopefully when CoD4 comes out (Infinity Ward's next version), it'll show some improvements.

But seriously, how in the world could you expect Treyarch to do a better job than Infinity Ward, when they started the franchise?? Don't forget, a lot of the guys at Infinity Ward started out working with EA on the Medal of Honor series.

I thought the multiplayer was great because I could actually find games.

The single player, not so much. They tried to add a new level of immersion to FPS games but tripped halfway there. Great ideas, but terrible implementation. The hand to hand combat was a great idea but you cannot choose when to use it and you're just limited to the RT/LT and maybe the B or A button every once in a while. It is the same with the bomb planting, they tried to make it more difficult but all you have to do is: Press a button, rotate the right stick, and press a button. They don't seem to be too creative.

Well, TreyArch bought out Greymatter, who did United Offensive, which I happen to think is the best of the CoD SP's. (MP was good.. but the implementation was bad) As for IW, they have a bit of a reputation for not fixing things properly, quite a few serious issues in the PC version that "can't be fixed" which is why the fan base hit the roof at them a few months back...

Is CoD4 coming to 360? PC only I thought :\

i was thinking of getting this game..but now probably not.

Get it if you've got nothing better to waste your money on. I'm playing through it on normal now, and its much more playable (as opposed to being dead every 5 seconds on Veteran), but at the end of the day its just a money grab.

One thing I do like about CoD3 is how buildings are destroyed as you battle to defend them, its not something IW do much (but Greymatter do :p)

are you talking about the xbox or the xbox360 version? I have no problems finding a game on LIVE on the 360 version.

I didn't think CoD3 came out on the Xbox. I think theres a router issue, I remember reading a few threads about it but not caring at the time.. Will have to put my Xbox in the DMZ and then see what happens.

yeah, the MP is good and there's always people on.

you're correct re the single player campaing, it was a let down and all the points you mentioned are correct. it's amazing that they released a full price, premium game with unskippable cutscenes! true, the veteran diff setting should just be renamed "Opposing AI On Cheat Mode".

and some of the achievements don't work, either.
