Xbox 360 On Computer

Recommended Posts

Well, For Christmas I'm getting a new Dell 2007FPW or a 19-Inch Widescreen. Now I wanted Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable. I'm not sure but from what I understand it will be in HD and look very good? Just curious because I might buy it before christmas and use it on my current HP Pavilion F1503. It supports 1080p right, or am I better of on my ~27 inch Sony In the basement (No HD).

It looks like it won't work on the F1503 if you want to use high def I'm afraid, it's only 1024x768, whereas 720p is 1280x720, so it can't handle the whole width of the picture, it might work, but I'm guessing all you'll get is a out of range message on the monitor. It should work on standard def though. I could be wrong though.

The TV'll work, the 360's pretty good at standard def, it'd be my display of choice out of the two, until you can get to the 2007

If I'm not mistaken, the 2007FPW doesn't support 1080p since it's max resolution is only 1680x1050.

Also keep in mind that computer LCD monitors are 16:10, not 16:9, so the picture will be stretched slightly unless the monitor is able to display 1:1 by adding black bars.

My bad, wasn't clear enough, basically:

F1503 - Standard Def

27" TV - Standard Def

2007FPW - 720p

Believe me, you'll notice the difference on high def, went from a 28" standard def to a Dell 2407FPW (damn thing won't do 1080p through component :( ) so I'm running 720p and it looks amazing.

For reference the resolutions are:

1280x720 - 720p

1920x1080 - 1080p

You won't fit a larger resolution on a smaller screen

I'd like to point something out here. The only one with HDTV capabilities is the 2007FPW, since it's at 720p. The F1503, even though it doesn't support 720p, will still look better than your 27" SDTV, since the VGA cable supports resolutions between 480i(SD)/p and 720p (like 1024x768, which is higher than an SDTV, but lower than 720p and is what the F1503 max res is). But if you want what we know to be True HD, you'll want the 2007FPW.

Okay, sounds good... I might be moving the 360 back and fourth between my room with the dell 2007fpw and the family room with a samsung 1080i HDTV (can't keep it their because the tv is used a lot)

how come this 19 incher's only 1024X768? shouldn't it be 1440X900 for WS? those are "HD" since they meet the resolution requirements, altho not natively which means scaling.

However, the 360 has 1024X768 has a set reolution in the setup so you WON'T miss out on any of the image.

i say go with the LCD...it beats any other solution for me since like Vegetunks i'm a console/PC gamer and use one screen for both.

Does this support 720P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824009100 ?

I understand the Res is above 720 (1440x900) but, so is 1024x768... Because I believe I'm getting a 19inch widescreen.

1024x768 isn't higher than 720, because it's not wide enough to display 1280 across. The monitor you linked will display at least 720p, yes.

I guess I should clarify again. All 720p is is a fancy name for the resolution 1280x720 - it's nothing more. So if you are looking for a monitor and it's max resolution is higher both in width and height, then it has a resolution higher than 720p - so technically, it does better than 720p, it's just that 720p is an industry standard resolution for HD.

How's the stretching? Is it really noticeable?

The only way I could tell there was any stretching was by looking at a perfect circle. Even then, the stretching was barely noticeable to me.

Most CRT monitors, if not all, use a 4:3 aspect ratio. My monitor (Samsung 753DF) has a max resolution of 1280x1024. Now that's higher than 720p in terms of height, and that causes the image to be more "square-like". I tried Gears of War and all the players looked shorter and wider. Almost like those carnival mirrors that make you look short and wide. I saw the same thing with Project Gotham Racing 3. And even 720p videos had extra black bars which were lighter than the black bars in the video. Though, there is an update coming out for Gears of War that will fix the aspect ratio issue. I'm not sure how it'll be dealt with for other games. Your best bet is to use a widescreen LCD monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 16:10.
