Backwards Compatibility List Leaked?

Recommended Posts

An eagle eyed forumer at Cheapassgamer spotted a new Backwards Compatible list posted up on Xbox.com that had a whole list of new games added to it. Unbeknown to him, it wasn’t meant to be up, so didn’t get a screenshot, and now it’s gone again. So rumour it stays, but thankfully there at least is a list to talk about.

The supposed list of new and updated games is as follows:

* All-Star Baseball 2005

* Aquaman: Battle of Atlantis

* Buffy the Vampire Slayer

* Burnout 3: Takedown (Updated)

* Dead Or Alive Ultimate

* Destroy All Humans!

* Dynasty Warriors 4

* Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick

* Indigo Prophecy

* Family Guy

* Far Cry: Instincts

* Incredibles

* I-Ninja

* Leisure Suit Larry: Magna ###### Laude

* Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

* MotoGP

* MX Unleashed

* Open Season

* Pariah

* Psychonauts

* Rainbow Six: Lockdown

* Rapala Pro Fishing

* Scarface

* Shark Tale

* Shenmue II

* Splinter Cell: Double Agent

* The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

* Ultimate Spider-Man

* Wakeboarding Unleashed: Featuring Sean Murray

* Whacked!

* Winback 2: Project Poseidon

* Xiaolin Showdown

So why should we even begin to believe this? Well, for starters, the games are listed in alphabetical order; if you were going to make up a fake list, would you think to list it from A-Z? I know I wouldn’t. The second thing is that Psychonauts is on the list. The same game whose developer asked you to email Microsoft and demand it be put on the list. Also, it was later announced that we would indeed see it in a BC update. So whilst it remains rumour, it’s probably the most plausible one we’ve had for a while.

Other great games that might see some light on the 360 include Shenmue II and Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit for Europe). Two excellent games that definitely deserve to be played again, so hopefully this list will be put back up with everything still intact, with an official announcement soon.

And, since this is a rumour, it’s also unknown when we will see the next update, but, if this is true, then it will probably be not too long from now!

What's interesting is that Splinter Cell: Double Agent is listed. Usually you don't see games being added to the BC list if there is a 360 version already available, but perhaps it was made compatible simply by luck while working on the BC code for other games.

UPDATE: Joystiq contacted Microsoft about why the list was taken down so quickly:

[...]However, when asked about the exact release date of this December update, Microsoft warned us that the list is not final. "We'll have more news soon -- as I'm sure you're aware with any software development, things can change at any time so we want to make an announcement when we're sure we've got the final, solid list."

rightttttttt, but then when he sees the list thats the 1st thing he points out as proof of the list being true. I don't know if its true or not but nothing there would be jumping out at me. Also weird that some have a place on the 360 currently so I'm a bit suspicious.

Still no Full Spectrum Warrior either.....!

Which eejit at Microsoft decided to add Leisure Suit Larry over some of the title's listed in this topic already?

Many titles are added simply because they work due to work done to support other titles, or because they were easy "low-hanging fruit."

Besides, the real list is better.

I can't believe they did Shenmue II.

I just tried it and it works an absolute treat... although it runs in letterbox though. I dunno if i can change that but i don't care! It will still keep me up all night :p
