New ATI Vista Driver

Recommended Posts

I saw this yesterday when neowin was down. I was so happy. Hoping and praying that ATI has given us all a late holiday gift. Then I read the guru3D post from here:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=2078568

What's the point of continuing developing the driver if the main thing that's lacking isn't even addressed? OpenGL people at ATI!

Also, you have to jump through so many hoops to make it work (also detailed in aforementioned forum thread), it's not worth it.

Mirror download site if any one care:

Yes, but cloning/extending desktop to tv using TV OUT still doesn't work.

'kay still no final 7.1 drivers for vista x64 yet?

I decided several days ago to try out the experimental direct3D support in vmware running windows xp pro. Well, guess what ATI? It won't work because it needs...you guess it, OpenGL support! Why vmware needs OpenGL support to enable Direct3D support is beyond me (using OpenGL to emulate Direct3D calls?).

...still waiting for complete f**kin' OpenGL support on vista x64.

So I had an itch to play Doom 3 on Vista x64 today. The pupils of all the characters were missing. Then one of the close up pics shows that they weren't missing, they're just rolled all the way to either sides of the head. :| And no, this is before they turn into zombies.

Why ATI? Why did you ruin my Doom 3 experience?

ATI guy: Because we want you to suffer like a little boy.

Me: I just want my OpenGL!

ATI guy: Tough little boy, you ain't gettin' any OpenGL love!

Me: You bas....tard!

ATI guy: Mooowwahhhahahaha!!!

Me: *** beats the living crap out of ATI guy ***

I smile for you all.

Try 8.331 from Asus. OpenGL seems to be working. I was able to play Quake 4, Doom 3 (however, I couldn't chare resolution, it stayed at 800x600). In Far Cry, however, half of textures are still missing.

OMFG!!!! The ASUS 8.331 Vista driver delivers us from OpenGL suckiness:

1.1 100 % 7/7

1.2 100% 8/8

1.3 100% 9/9

1.4 100% 15/15

1.5 100% 3/3

2.0 100% 10/10

2.1 0% 0/3

Only the OpenGL 2.1 core features are not supported. You have made me happy ATI! I am proud to own ATI graphic card. :p

Update:

Well, looks like the no-pupils in doom3 is gone. Also the texture and shadows look a lot better now. But it still crashes right after you leave the station and approach the entrance to the other module (the first time you walk outside in the martian environment).

Vmware now recognizes DX3D. But when I run the dxdiag test it crashed/locked up vmware. Oh, well. They did say that DX3D support is experiemental. Here's hoping that little bit of unsupported OpenGL 2.1 did not cause the lockup. :(

huh? no it doesn't. Your tests are likely just using the built in opengl wrapper vista has...

*Edit* whoops nm, I was basing my message on 8.33 which doesn't have any opengl support... Just read that 8.331 is a different thing :p

My apologises ;p

Wow. I've just tried 7.1 for Vista x64 (version 8.333.0.0):

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista64...on-vista64.html

Support for OpenGl 2.1 is still missing. Everything else is in like with the ASUS 8.331 driver.

Doom 3 still crashes in the same area. VMware dxdiag test shows incredible speeds for the Direct3D 7 and 8 interfaces (black screen at end of each test), but I get a blank white screen for the duration of the Direct3D 9 test. At least it didn't crash VMware like with the ASUS 8.331 driver. :D

I am running the beta 7.2 on Vista Ultimate on

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 (*1)

CPU PSN : AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor

CPU EXT : MMX (+) 3DNow! (+) SSE SSE2 SSE3 x86-64

MB Brand : MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO. LTD

MB Model : MS-7125

NB : NVIDIA nForce4 rev A3

SB : NVIDIA nForce4 MCP rev A3

RAM Size : 2048 MB

RAM Freq : 201.1 MHz

RAM Type : DDR-SDRAM Dual Channel

RAM Ratio : CPU/13

RAM Timings : 3-3-3-8

Slot 3 : 512MB (PC3200)

Slot 3 Manufacturer : Kingston

Slot 4 : 512MB (PC3200)

Slot 4 Manufacturer : Kingston

and before these drivers I would LAG and spike/stutter step in Bf2, CS:S ever few seconds. The graphics were amazing, colors seemed deeper/richer but the stutter was unbearable no matter what resolution/setting. Now I have MINIMAL stuttering athough still there. Definately a ways to go but this is a big step IMO.

All these problems and nothing like mine. I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Toshiba P30 Satellite Laptop

Specs Follow:

Intel P4 3.6 GHZ CPU

ATI Mobility Radeon X600 PCI-E 16x

1024meg RAM

40GIG HDD

ATI Drivers are v7.2

Now my problem starts from a full reboot. The display just does not want to show anything yet i can still hear it loading stuff (the little intro tune plays). Blank Screen. BUT... if i put the laptop into sleep mode, then wake it up again, the display works fine. displays everything. i reboot, goes blank again. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there a way to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ATI vista users...leaving in droves to NVIDIA because of crappy OpenGL support. :D

Potential NVidia users switching to ATI since NVidia drivers still don't seem to work at all.
