Ayepecks
Giga, what does it tell me that's unique and original? I read it, but I fail to see why it is unique and original. Please explain what the article states that's new. All it says is how it works.
stanley porkchop
Because Halo 2 invented the "virtual couch" system? Or is that not original?
-Anthony
I think what Ayepecks means is that Halo didn't necessarily genre altering or creating. For example Resident Evil literally created the survival-horror genre. Whilst FPS on consoles were already being made. You could argue that it did alter the genre in some ways or others, but Halo is just simply FPS on consoles PERFECTED particularly its online system. As for original, anything can be labeled as such this term is used loosely these days especially in food commercials.
magik
@Ayepecks: Have you run out of things to say? Nobody said sales and/or popularity makes a game original.
stanley porkchop
@Ayepecks: Have you run out of things to say? Nobody said sales and/or popularity makes a game original. He's assuming that's what we mean when we say Halo had the "best" this or the "best" that. Also, we have said Halo is popular, and there's a reason for it. We've given the reason, but he's stuck on the "Halo is popular" part. At least that's what I'm getting from the argument. Anthony's spot-on here, though: originality is used very loosely nowadays. If something "groundbreaking" can't just be something that "breaks new ground" (w/ the virtual couch, expanded audience, etc.), I don't know how this argument can continue. magik
I don't know how this argument can continue. Yea, I agree. It's gotten pretty boring to tell you the truth. I think I'm done here.
Ayepecks
@Ayepecks: Have you run out of things to say? Nobody said sales and/or popularity makes a game original. What's that? Wrong yet again. I mean to tell you that a game that sells 2.4 million copies on the first day of launch is groundbreaking if not just for setting new sales records. Are you forgetting what groundbreaking means? magik
^ There was a BC update. So you may need to boot/reload a couple times? Yea, they didn't mention the quantity of maps. I think it's be safe to say that it'll be more than 2. Perhaps 4 is a safe bet, seeing as how its pretty much a completely separate developer now that's doing it.
