Fanatical
I'll be getting a 360 soon, and have a few questions, Xbox live, ive heard that it's awesome, and ive done a bit of research and found the Gold and Silver versions, is the Gold version really worth the ?40 a year over the Silver version, i doubt i'll be using it for chatting etc, as i use my PC for that but just for gaming and the occasional download of demos, videos etc. Also the HD-DVD drive, is it worth getting one of these in a few months ( when the Xmas rush is over and the prices may have dropped a little) will games be using the drive to store more data, or will the only reason to get one be to watch HDDVD movies, rather than games for a while? As I would most likely not use the drive for movies often i wouldn't consider getting it just to do this. Backwards compatability. I didn;t get the original Xbox, but it looks like theres a few decent games out there, i know the 360 didn't originally support this, but i'm wandering if this changed? If so are there any games that are must buys. Finally, any games you recommend apart from PES6, PGR, GoW, and the arcade stuff. Also any accesories that are really worth getting, the pack i'll buy is the Entertainment edition thing, with the component cable, headset, hd drive. Is the wireless going to give me so much lag that it'll be worth running an ethernet cable? Thanks.
.KICK
You need Gold to play games online, they sometimes do limited time promotions where they let Silver users play online too but thats like a week or less. the HD-DVD wont be used for games, just for movies only The 360 does BC, loads of great games are supported, always being updated too I recommend RS6:Vegas, Viva Pinata etc, try the demos on the Marketplace before buying them so you can give them all a try before you spend money. The 360 dosen't have wireless built in, I don't notice any lag much through my wireless but obviously ethernet cable is faster If you don;'t have a HDTV, I would recommend getting the VGA cable, lets you hook up your 360 to a CRT or TFT monitor and displays your games in HD goodness, get the official one though, comes with the connectors
WelshBluebird
If you want to play online games, they you need gold, as you cannot play online using silver. From what MS has said, and common sense, the HD-DVD drive will only be used for movies (as if it was used for games, it would split the userbase). There are rumours about future games coming in two versions. One on a HD-DVD, and one on multiple DVD's. But there is no evidence to back that up atm As for the others, I don't know - as I don't own a 360 yet lol (yet being the key word lol). damn - .KICK beat me to it lol
Jeston Veteran Posted December 16, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 16, 2006 Just to answer a couple of the questions... The difference between the Gold and Silver options is that in order to play games online with other people, you must have the Gold package. The Silver will be fine for only downloading demos and videos and arcade games. If you have an HDTV, I would say the HD-DVD drive is probably worth it. I've heard good things about it, but don't have an HDTV yet. Also, you can connect it to your PC. The Xbox 360 definitely supports backwards compatability. Can't go wrong with some Halo :p I also like Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero for the 360. Wireless will not make you lag at all. If your router is good, you have nothing to worry about with the wireless performance.
Fanatical
Cheers for the quick replys :) The package ill get comes with a component cable, and as i have a PC monitor with component connections and a tv with them thats definatly what i'll use to hook it up. Looks like the gold is definatly what ill go for then ?40 for a year doesn't sound so bad. Thanks guys
Huleboeren
If you want a football game I recommend not getting the X360. FIFAs crap and for kids - theyre trying to improve by copying PES now PES6 is crippled on the X360 - many features and content has been pulled out :/ (If you have PS2, get PES6 for that - much better, trust me) And be aware of that most games are not backwards compatible - make sure you check 'the list' before you buy an old xbox game We'll see you on the battlefield! Most of the good games are, or will be very very soon :) Obviously you should check the list before buying any new Xbox games - but the list already has like 250+ titles on it I believe. I already have PES6 on PS2. what exactly has been removed? Is it really that bad??? Is there a site or something showing the differences. i found a list last night and i think ill only end up buying the real good xbox games that aren't on 360 halo1 etc. I dont intend to buy too many, just enough to keep me entertained while i save up for the decent 360 games, at ?40-50 a go i wont be getting a massive collection...
