What do I need to get for the 360?

Recommended Posts

It looks like I'm going to be getting a XBOX 360 in the next few days. I was wondering what I needed to get in order to run with my current setup. I have a 32" RCA CRT TV that has the component out/S-video. I can run a PS2 directly off the tv just fine.

I was planning on getting the 360 Premium system, along with an extra controller and the plug and charge from MS. Since I don't have a HDTV, other than the possibility of using my 19" Samsung 930B monitor, do I need to get any other cables?

Also, in order to play online, do I need the Gold subscription or can I get by with the silver?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, so that I run into fewer problems setting everything up.

Thanks!

If your Samsung has component IN then you don't need any cables. If it doesn't, you need to buy the VGA cables.

And yes, you need Gold subscription to play online.

Good for the PlugNPlay charger as well. That was the first item on my 'accessory' list.

Good luck and have fun!

if it has component IN (not out, which i doubt it is out) then you dont need to purchase any additional cables for the TV, as the premium system comes with component cables.

You will get one month of xbox live gold (possibly 3 months) for free to test it out. At the end of the period, you can make the decision if you want to continue to play online with your friends.

If you don't make your gamertag on xbox.com... which I have done, so when I get my 360 no trial for me. I'll be picking up Gold 12Mth anyway :) .

You still get a free month. I registered my GT early and still got the free month when I got my 360.

That I'm happy to hear. I was told I wouldn't. Did you / Do you need to register your 360 first though?

Regrading the play & charge kits... I never use mine.

I much prefer the "Quick charge" little station that charges 2 batteries at once. That way I never have any wires and it just seems to work better for me.

Nah, it only starts your trial from the time you sign in with that gamertag with your 360. No need to register your 360.

Microsoft makes the play & charge kits I believe. Who makes the Quick charge stations? Do other people have an opinion on which one is better to get?

Also, are there any other accessories that I should look into getting?

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I prefer the plug and charge kit.... no need to switch the batteries out... once you are done playing just plug in the controller and it will be fully charged for your next gaming session....

but in the end your still plugging something in and out be it the cable or the battery. I actually find the battery alot easier to remove too than the cable.

I too also use the Plug N Play. It is all really a matter of preference, and perhaps I should mention it is also a matter of money. I already own two Plug N Play cables, and I will be damned if I buy yet another accesorry that does the same thing.

Rainbow Six Vegas is a good one out now. What i suggest tho is go to the marketplace and download demos and play and see which you like. GOW should definitely be on your list tho (which it is) and that's all i'd tell anyone to get for sure. Anything else i say try before you buy.

Alright! Thanks for the info.

Also, to add to this thread -- I'll be picking up Play 'N' Charge.
