Updated 360 in Q1 2007?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm considering buying a 360 sometime soon. But I heard a rumor that MS is moving to 65nm chips in early 07, which would lead to price cuts. Is this true, or likely to happen?

Price cuts in manufacturing. Not necessarily retail price, Microsoft have denied for some time they are not going to cut the x360's price.

Maybe DirectX 10 card will be included!!..who knows!! lets play the wait game! :)

They won't do that either. The xbox 360 is a standard piece of kit and it has to be the same across the board for games developers to be able to create games for a standard.

I asked about this on this forum

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...18095&st=30

About half way down the page Spartan_X(MS worker) says they will take at least 6 months to fully filter through the channel and they plan to mix them up with the current stock to prevent people holding back like yourself. Its even longer in the EU.

Personally I got fed up of waiting and just brought one anyway, get extended warranty on it and if the worst does happen a year or so down the line you can get it replaced with a 65mm model :p

It wont be cheaper than the other Xbox, maybe eventually but that wont be so much them swapping to the new processing method as it is a side effect of sales decreasing over time or competition. It may mean you get a cooler Xbox but and perhaps a smaller Power Brick. Besides that theres no reason to wait except maybe to see if you can get one next week cheaper in any post Xmas sales.

Say in the worse scenario you get an Xbox now that overheats and dies. It's unlikely for a starter but in the event that happens you can feel pretty safe in knowing that your replacement would quite possibly be a newer unit. You wont see a more powerful GPU, nor would the revised CPU be faster.

I also got fed up on waiting mine is under the dam Tree :p. I was told by Microsoft the reason for the new 360s are the small process CPUs in them which lowers Microsofts manufacturing costs and they will be mixed up at retail.

Obviously it will run cooler but if you look after your 360 it shouldn't overheat in the first place :).
