The only things that make want a PS3 is its capabilities like the Wii-mote, but that could probably be written for Windows along with an emulator some day

But the only games making me want a PS3 are MGS, DMC, and Tekken I think :)

From Kikizo:

Kikizo has known about the plan to release VF5 on Xbox 360 since around March this year, but as soon as the pre-E3 announcement of the PS3 version came, Sega has kept quiet about it. The publisher even distributed screenshots that were labelled as '360 version' to certain media ahead of an official console announcement in early 2006.

However, Kikizo can reveal that early code is running on 360 right now and that 360 owners will, apparently, benefit from the additions and refinements that will be made to the 'Version C' arcade revision, while the PS3 version will be based around the imminent Version B. This is, of course, subject to change.

However, as AM2

told Kikizo in the summer, there will be no online play for any version of the game.

No online play on either system? Lame. Hope MS can convince them to change that.

As for VF5 on the 360 - I so called this like, um, a year ago =P And was blasted for it by quite a number of Sony fans for being crazy.

Nice. Always was a fan of the VF series. The first one on the Dreamcast to this day is one of the best fighters ever made.

It is very unfortunate there will not be online play though, as I highly doubt I will get it now as a result.

Since I am 32 years old and live with my girl, I mainly play my 360 by myself, only occasionally are my friends over and I fire it up so we can play. It is rare to say the least. Add that to the fact there is almost nothing I hate more than the single player campaign in fighter games, so since I cannot play other people online, it is almost guaranteed I will not pick it up. What a shame.

Great news for Microsoft in terms of Japan especially. It'll be interesting to see what other exclusives Sony will lose, hmm...

They better add online support. Even if it's just 1v1. I can't imagine it being that hard, really, especially since they'll have more time to work on the 360 version. If VF5 features online play for the 360, this could be the launchpad that Microsoft needs to leverage 360 sales in Japan, since online play on a title like this will expose the superiority the 360 has over other consoles in terms of it's online capabilities.

Pretty sure the first one wasn't on the DC as I spent way too many hours with VF2 on the Saturn. :p

Virtua Fighter 3 for the Dreamcast was the first VF title? :p. Maybe you mean't the Saturn not Dreamcast.

Hell that port of VF3 was horrible anyway, Sega dropped the ball with that one (luckily Soul Calibur was released to make up for it).

Good news. I'll probably only rent it since I'm not into fighting games as much as I used to be. I miss VF, though.

By the way, wasn't the first VF on the 32X before the Saturn version was released?

Ah, I love Sega. VF has always been my favorite 3D fighting game series. Whether or not online play makes it in doesn't bother me too much. But then again, nothing makes you master a game like another person.

Was VF5 labeled as exclusive to the PS3?

And no online play SUCKS.

I dunno about the initial "exclusivity" of the game, but I agree with you 100% that no online play SUCKS. With a capital S-U-C-K-S. It really surprises me that in this generation of "online integrated" consoles, that a fighting game would go without online play. To me fighting games are the most natural games to move to an online arena (besides sports games of course). Although, there is still a small part of me hoping that the extra stuff in the version for the 360 is online play, I doubt it will happen.

I always heard that online fighting games (2D and 3D) are hard to pull, too many issues with lag.

Here is somthing i found about online play missing from VF5:

Why Virtua Fighter 5 shouldn't (and doesn't) have online multiplayer

Oh believe me, I know about network lag affecting performance, being a professional programmer myself. But I was just commenting that online play, to me, seems like the next logical step for fighting games to truly enter the "next generation". And with fighting games being solely based on quick action/twitch gameplay it does seem like it would be hard to pull off. I'm just bummed that ther're not (publicly) trying to incorporate it.

edit: But a minor counter-point to the lag issue being the reason it was omitted: Games like CS, UT, and pretty much any other online shooter are all twitch-reliant games. And while they do lag in some cases, they are all (for the majority of the time) very playable. So, I tend to see that lag argument as a kind of fuzzy.
