Razorwing
ok I might be getting my Xbox360 tommorow, and I was wondering did Microsoft fix the crashing " Red Ring O' Death" yet on newer Consoles? Cause if they haven't I might as well just wait.
Huleboeren
The store could still have 'old ones' lying around.. There are two threads on Red Lights - check them, they might contain something usefull

Huleboeren
or I could ask them which was the newer ones that came in? If I remember correctly, they all rule under SpartanX's evil empire - which means they wont tell you anything.. old or new, 90nm or 65nm, nothing! :shifty:

(which btw, has just been extended to 1 year! ...in the US/canada)
dragon2611
ive had 4 errors causing red lights with my 360 and none of them where heat related. (because i got them all on a cold boot) 2 was i forgot to plug the AV cable in after moving it  ive had an error code 67 or something simular but that was when i ejected the drive just as it was about to boot the game the other error i have no idea why it idid that but it powered on to an error code but hasnt done it since. My 360 has locked up a couple of times but i think it was more likely a software bug in the game i was playing. imean ive locked up other consoles before, it happens (EDEN on ps2 was good for crashing it if you had more than 2 players doing the story mode  )
Razorwing
well my basement is quite cold, so I think it won't be that bad for overheating. The thing I"m afraid of is the red light thing. Tommorow is gonna be a riot @ Futureshop, so I don't really know if I can ask anything. I don't want to bring it home, and start up and start creating problems. :s

You shouldnt leave your house, becuase maybe you will get in a wreck, or if you might get struck by lighting or a tree will fall on you. If seeing 3 threads about someone who odds are dosnt even have an xbox to begin with says their is broke make you not get one. Then i suggest you throw away your computer, and forget about technology for the rest of your life. Its called a warranty

Its called a warranty I'm paranoid because I've researched on this and there has been a lot of people with this problem. Thinking about it, Microsoft should have fixed this problem by now. So I think you should think about what you just typed.

Ive had stuff thats faulty before, its a pain in the backside but thats what warrentys are for.
planetik
They fixed it (I believe). There's been less cases, if not any, of red lights on the xbox's manufactured and purchased lately. Don't worry about it overheating in Canada.

MightyJordan
Here's the easiest way to tell if your 360 is going to break down or not. When you get it, check the manufacturing date on the back of the console. If the date is July 2006 or newer, your 360 will be fine. It also means that you've got the newer disc drive installed, which is much cooler than the previous ones.

sghiznaneck
do you think I can go and switch it if I find out if it is older than July '06? I purchased one of the first 360's for my daughter last year for Christmas. It was preordered in September and didn't ship until the release date. She hasn't had one problem with it and she averages about 12-15 hours a week, and on average, at least a minimum of 3 hours per sitting. What we did was not place it in the upright position but instead, lay it down on it's four feet just like the Playstation. This seems to give it the best air circulation for cooling other than its upright position. It is also on the top of her wall unit instead of inside a shelf so it has a lot of open space. If you are that concerned about overheating and the "Red light of death", maybe you should look elsewhere for your console. seafirex
Well my opinion is all console or new technology devices that comes out on the market as some issue from the start. but with time they get fixed as per people report them and use there warranty. Now it is doing a long time the xbox 360 is out compared to the ps3 and the wii, so if i where you i would go get a xbox 360 as per it is safer to get then the ps3 and the wii at this point. More games , issue's that you heard from people that got one at it's release are mostly fixed. etc.etc. The ps3 at this point does have major issue (remember they are still testing with there current customer's still :) ) , and the wii , well other then people that dont know how to use it eg : playing with the remote like in real life sports :) seem's to be ok . So go get yourself a xbox 360 it is safe at this point for this console and lots of major games on it.
