Why can't I play fps on my 360?

Recommended Posts

I've spent hours talking to the xbox technical support people and they're stuck. My problem is that whenever I try to play a first person shooter on my 360 the character is always facing the ground and there's nothing I can do to make him look up! I've had my 360 for about six months and its worked fine until now. Even games that I've completed (like Call of Duty 2) won't run properly. As soon as the game starts, the character looks down and there's nothing I can do to make them look up. The Xbox support people say its something to do with my TV resolution but I'm not convinced. As I say, its been fine up till now. Does anyone have any ideas?? Ps, my console isn't modded, I've checked my family settings etc but no luck..

I believe the deadzones for the controller's sticks are configured at system startup. So did you have the sticks in an unusual position when starting your 360 before?

I don't know what the fix is other than starting the 360 up with the controller sticks in neutral position. If nothing works, you could gyp out and buy a new controller from Wal Mart, go home, open it, put the old one in the plastic and return it for a refund for being "defective."

by 'neutral position' if you mean not moving the sticks when the game starts up, I've tried that and, the moment the game boots up, the camera angle dips down to looking at the floor.. so do you think new a controller might be the solution? I had wondered about that but thought if it was the controller, wouldn't it affect all the games and not just shooters?

Try plugging in a other wired controller and see if it helps.

I just want to say that I have no idea what the **** the support people are saying it's your Television's fault for, it has no effect on the game itself, it just outputs it. Retards.

I agree about the resolution stuff. I had the feeling that the technical support people aren't allowed to admit that the console (or controller) could be at fault. So do you think a faulty controller could be affecting some games and not others??

it just might be, do you know anyone that has a 360 ? if so ask to use their controller ... no sense in buying a anew one if there is nothing wrong with yours ...

im thinking 2 things, its either the controller or the control port

If it was the controller, I don't see why it would only be on shooters. It's an odd occurrence.

Like the others said, try using someone else's. I only suggested that replacement "technique" because your controller is older and you may not have the receipt.

Think you got it spot on. Went out and bought another controller and the consoles working fine now. The forum came up with an answer faster than microsoft did. Thanks everyone :-)

I guess only FPS's were affected because of that default control scheme the 360 does, like all FPS will have the same default sensitivity setting. I don't know, it's fixed now anyway, have fun.

sounds like the tech support had no idea and just wanted out of this conversation.

your TV does nothing but output the image from your 360.. it does not control your characters movement.. wow what retards.

Try a different controller, you may have left that controller upside down for a little too long and someone may have stepped on it?

edit: sorry you fixed it.

check the settings in the Default Settings area under Personal Settings. Hit the guide button then hit personal settings and see if anything there would help. I'm not at home now so i can't check to see if anything is there that would relate to that.

Do you have any other games that use the right analog stick? You mention that the problem isn't with other games (i think, although it is unclear)...do you have any other non fps games that use the right stick that you can try out?
